You mean, an 84 w/ CF and turned down tips , an 85 w/ no 3rd light and tuned port? 86 w/ 3rd light, silver wheel centers intsead of black , verts had pace emblem near center console and coupes mid year got center bolt valve covers - early 86 had side bolt covers, 87- had wind defllectors on the side mirrors but close to the same as an 86 in many respects..., 88 had unique 16" wheels and an optional 17" wheel - 88 was different from 89 cause the seat design - Obvious ;) 89 also saw the 6 spd introduced, 90 got the 17" wheels w/ out center cap covers and a redesign dash, 91 saw new bodywork w/ last yr for L98.
92 saw LT1 w/ painted sawblades like the wheels on a 91, 93 got 40th on all the seats (unless it was cloth, then you had to look for machines sawblade wheels, 94 got a redesigned interior w/ same ol' side gils while 95 saw revisions to those (gills), 96... was there much different on a 96?? Unless it was a GS, CE, or an LT4 - I can't think of a whole lot, hmmmm....

New baby is keeping me up all hours - thanks for a place to dump all that useless info ;)

Enjoy & feel free to add

haha right on, for 96.. if the car is 6spd i just check the tach for 8K or VIN for the beautiful number 5 haha, if its automatic.. gotta cheat and use the VIN 1G1YY22P7S5100001 throught 1G1YYP7S5120294 (right??)o yea and 91's easy to spot with the new exterior (old "gills")but either old or unique mufflers plus the silver or gray interior components

If it is a convertible, you automatically know it is not '84 or '85.
Also, two-tone paint was only offered until '88.
Also, I know the black tip on the end of my radio antenna is different on my '89 than on my dad's '84.

'96 paint between the front side markers and the front parking lights are painted the same as the body color, previous years are painted black :D

All good stuff...I'm pretty good with the 80s C4s, but can use all the help I can get once we get to the 90s!

Between 91 & 92, you also saw the change in motor from L98 to LT1. The muffler outlets changed as well. 91 had the 4 round outlets, where 92+ (except for ZR-1) had 1 wide mouth outlet.

I can through a monkey wrench into your theory. A guy I work with bought an '84,and sent it out the day he picked it up and had it converted to a convertible.. They did a nice job too, looks factory...

Ok then, riddle me this Batman. On a hardtop, from the exterior, if the wheels have been changed, how can you tell a 1986 from a 1990?

3rd brakelight??

Interior door panels different on 94-96 LT1/4 cars.
92-93 LT1 is Speed Density with ECM, 94-96 LT1 is MAF with PCM.
96 is first year for all OBDII on vette.
95-96 had 13" brakes standard.
93 PKE was standard.

... 88Z51... RPO CC2 (auxiliary hardtop) wasnt available until 89 so if there was a hardtop.. its not an 86 :jester and in 1990 the radiator has a differnt slope from all previous years
