I just went ahead and took off my air pump. some say to take the cover off the WW motor but to do that you have to get to a screw that is behind the valve cover.

Air Pump is a cinch to take off.

are you stuck on the bolt that holds the bottom of the air pump on?

I pulled mine out and ground it down so it is no longer a problem.

After unbolting the fuel rail cover and unplugging the injectors, I tie the injector harness up to hold it out of the way. Then unbolt the Air Pump and lean it forward. You can also unbolt the air line that goes into the underside/back of the plenum. This allows you to push it toward the firewall giving you room at the back of the valve cover. You should now be able to maneuver the cover off of the head.

Just don’t forget to reattach the air line to the underside of the plenum or you’ll have a massive leak and the engine won’t stay running… ask me how I know…
