Default Acrylic letter removal

How can I safely remove the self adhesive acrylic letters that my former owner put on the rear of my Vette in the recessed Corvette letters. I want to get them off without pulling paint... Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cry

My friend was getting gas in his Vette, the auto shut off didn't. Gas poured all over the back. His letters fell right off.

(Of course I am not recommending pouring gas on your car)

i think pine sol or castrol super clean will do it
but i don't want to recommend putting either on your car

i think walmart carries a sticker-desticking product but i don't know how well that works on paint either

I found that WD40 usually desolves the glue and doesn't hurt the paint.

3M Adhesive Remover will do the trick. Found at most auto part stores.

Place remover (liquid) on a rag, press hard on letters to get into creaveses, work one corner loose, slide fishing line behind the letter to work it off w/o scratching your paint. Wipe excess fluid off paint finish.

Wash when finished.

Not hard at all.

I agree that the letters detract from the cars appearance, but it's just a matter of personal taste.

I removed a LT1 emblem that was on the paint with this stuff called UN-DU Adhesive Remover. I got it from either Wal-Mart or Targets. Looks like something advertised on TV.

Use the remover, then get some "Waxed Dental Floss" and pull thru the letters, it will cut thru the glue and save the letters, then you can clean off the glue

Not sure if you have the same kind of lettering, we had vinyl lettering, but when we needed to remove vinyl lettering from our company vehicle, we used a hair dryer. Our vinyl guy said that was the safest way to get the sticky lettering off without damaging the paint and clearcoat.

Soften them up with a LITTLE acetone nail polish remover, and gently scrape them off with a plastic scraper. The remaining glue can be cleaned off with a soft cloth with acetone ,then wax the area.
I've done this many times on boats.

:iagree:

When I bought my car it had the vinyl letter on the back from the car dealer.
Took out a hair dryer, softened the vinyl a little and it peeled right off.

Worth a try.

Thanks for all the replies! The type of letters that I'm trying to remove are the kind that look like they are cut out of plastic and about 1/4" thick. They are self adhesive, fit in the grooves of the indented letters and actually stick out about 1/8". They seem to be made of a hard "plastic", similar to if not the same as the ones sold by Eckler's and Corvette Central for around $20.00.... :jester

im in the sign business and I have to use alot of chemicals on vehicles to remove adhesives. The 3m works well but it can haze your paint the best thing to use is a citrus based remover just spray it on and let it set and it will weaken the adhesive. You may be able to get it at a local harware store I have mine made by a local janitorial supply company. The best stuff is called citrosol.Hope this helps.

I put them on mine... 1/2 way through the summer, didn't like them any more. My heatgun, and a little spray bottle filled with water/soap did the trick. I heated them up a little, squirted, heated up some more, and they floated down, out of the grooves they once sat in. I was going to wash the car anyways, so the soap didn't matter.

I once bought an old panel van, and removed the previous firms logos easily with a hot air gun.
