My vette flooded a few nites ago. Backed up storm drains. I didnt notice my car had water in it til a few days later when I noticed my windows fogged. Carpets soaking wet. Water stains 3 inches up my door. I checked the oil for water and it looked fine. So I started it and water just poured out the exhaust pipes. Now theres some kind of knocking in my engine while cold but goes away when it warms up. Car runs fine. Great oil pressure. No water in oil. Radiator level is fine. Any ideas what the knocking may be? Luckily its insured. Thanks!
I have heard of people starting engines with water in them without first removing the plugs and spinning it to get the water off the top of the pistons, can cause bent rods, crank damage among other things. That totally sucks man, sorry to hear that-good thing you have full coverage just in case, keep us posted on what you find out
Ben
If water did not get into the engine, the internal parts are okay. The knock may be related to a wet or corroded sensor or relay some where. Doesn't sound like the water got into the gas tank.
I have dealt with several flood vehicles. Couple things to remember. You need to clean, dry and lube (WD40) any electrical connection that was under water. You should also clean and apply new grease to any u-joint, ball joint, and wheel bearing. Basically you want to remove any contaminated grease.
If any debris floated in the "flood" make sure your radiator is clean.
