I'm new to the forum. Have been driving L98s for 14 years - recently got my 350 Camaro in the 12s - 12.83 @ 105.6 - backed it up with 12.80s & 12.90s at 3 different tracks (Great Lakes, US41, & Byron) in the last 2 months. Thought I'd run these times by the Vette crowd & see how they stack up. Was wondering if anyone's seen a better et from an L98 given the following restrictions:
stock L98 camshaft, stock Corvette aluminum heads, stock block (rebuilt .040 over, for 357 cid), stock computer, stock TPI fuel injection setup (with bolt-on siamese runners & accel lower manifold), 3450 lb car without driver, emissions legal with catalytic converters, stock suspension setup except for polyeurathane bushings & Hotchkins rear arms & panhard rod (ie. - it corners great too), no nitrous, no superchargers, no turbos - just straight motor.
it's basically a balanced & blueprinted "'91 Vette Spec" TPI L98 with all the bolt-on tricks I could think of. every bit as streetable as a stocker.
fastest my 89 GTA went was 14.3 stock, friends almost identical 89 GTA went 14.2 (his had plastic t tops and dual cats instead of glass tops and 1 cat as mine had)
This sounds like you are comparing an apple to an orange though as yours isn't really stock once it was rebuilt...
FWIW, the GTA now goes a consistant 12.4@115 in the 1/4 - Must be the Corvette Valve covers ;)
Vic'89 here on the forum has gone 12.73 I believe. I think his L98 meets all your qualifications although his is still a 350. My '91 has only gone a measily 13.001 :cuss Man was I pissed when I saw that slip  I'm sure once I get a problem in my rearend taken car of I'll see some 12.9x slips.
I'd say you are movin very good for what you have done. I like the 3rd gen camaros and t/a's a lot especially if they are clean and not "rednecked" out.
Every part in my motor has an L98 part number from GM. I don't claim the whole car being stock - I've got tons of bolt-ons - just the motor. Technically you could DQ me for having .040 over pistons & 7 extra cubic inches - If that's an issue to you, you may choose to discount everything I've said.
TA - I assume your friend's '89 is a Vette - guess I'll have to settle for 2nd best (or maybe best F-body). It's tough to compete with Vettes that have weight, aerodynamic, and suspension advantages - I figured if I would get beat by another L98 - it would be by a Vette. Sounds like I'll be third best soon - your dyno results are better than mine - should prove out on the track - I've got 262.3 rwhp & 354.0 rwft-lbs. My ram air isn't included in the dyno results, so I'm a little better when I'm moving down the track - but then there's the weight issue.... - Good Luck - let me know how you do,
TA - I double checked Vic's 89. The only thing that might not meet my qualifications is that he may have eliminated the air pump. If that would cause him to fail emissions, it may not fit with my car - I could pull right off the track & pass IM-240 standards. Still he's got the top time I've seen. I'm very impressed. Rightfully speaking a Vette should be top-dog, all other things being equal. Still fun to compare my F-body against it's superiors though.

KC - It's true that I dont have the air pump anymore, but my car still passes the tough NY emissions test every year with no problems.
Btw, you are running some great numbers in that Fbody.
What kind of 60' times are you pulling ?
Vic - my best 60ft is 1.687 - SLP 2500 stall & Mickey Thompson ET Streets - only ran a 12.95 on that one though. Ran a 12.83 (105.4mph) on a 1.71 on Mickeys - 12.89 (105.6) on a 1.74 on Nitto Drags. I'm using one of those Mazeire electric water pumps plus underdrive aluminum pullies on the other equipment - what about you? What track did you run that time at? How was the weather? Weather for me was ideal - 40 degrees or so - high barometer. Only trouble is the Chicago area is about 600-700ft above sea-level - but I think the super high barometer readings compensated for that. Are the NY emissions on the roller dyno - do you think I could still pass mine if I bypassed the smog pump?
Vic - I doubt the F-body 60fts any better than the Vette with all other things being equal. My stall is 2500rpm - I use Mickey Thompson ET Streets or Nitto Drag Radials - the ET Streets give me about .04 better than the Drag Radials on 60 ft. I've got a Dana 44 with Auburn Diff & 3.54 gears too. Also - the difference may just be E-town - my best 60ft at that track is 1.76 - it seems to be pretty slick every time I've made the pilgrimage back East for SLP day. Do you chassis dyno your car? - I'd be interested to know your power numbers.
PS - the only sub 1.7 60ft I've gotten came @ US41 in Indiana - they have 14" of rollout - most tracks have 12" - the extra 2" will make your 60fts look better compared to other tracks - would probably have been a 1.71 on a track with the standard 12" of rollout. :flag
