Ok, i'm gunna be 21 in a month and a half, I go to RIT, not a cheap school at all. I'm from a small town and grew up on a family dairy farm, BUT I am fortunate enough to own a Corvette and a 1997 S-10.
Do any of you older owners get disgruntled at us young guys riding around in cars that maybe were out of your reach at my age? I feel kinda spoiled and bad sometimes. I read about how it took people till middle age to pick up their dream car, and i'm still so young...
Ok...lets see an 85 vette and a 97 S-10....probably less than 20 grand for both...probably owned by the bank..(or bought by parents)... :bb and when I was 16 I my first car was a 57 chevy convertable that I paid cash for :) so I would say....uummmmm....NO...Im an old guy and im not disgruntled...just be sure to keep those grades up so when you get to be an old guy like me you can afford all the REALLY good toys...like I can.... :flag
I'll be 22 in about 3 weeks (Jan 8th) and I have worked my tail off to be able to finally get my dream Corvette. I'm not a rich or spoiled kid but I was brought up to believe that if I want something, work hard for it and I'll appreciate it more. There have been plenty of times I have been jealous of others, especially one friend whose parents are multi, multi millionaires and actually own both organizations that I work for. But I can see that he doesn't seem to appreciate those certain things that I do and doesn't realize how many 40+ hours I have had to put in for the last 6 years to be where I am at today. All he has to do is ask and his wish is granted. He isn't stuck up and is pretty down to earth but still just doesn't completely understand what hard work is and having to worry if ends are gonna meet.
As for some of the older members here I can't say that I could blame them for being a little angry at kids like him that have it pretty easy and get whatever they want. But they should be able to respect the hard work that the rest of us had to endure to get our Corvettes. Some of the older members might have had a chance to get a Vette earlier in life but for whatever reason they decided not to. I could have had a mortgage on a house or numerous other things but I had to make sacrifices to achieve what I thought was the most important. Luckily I am still young enough and I am not tied down so I was able to just go for it. I have had my car now for 1 week and I haven't looked back. I'd do it all over again if I could.
Lets see, us older guys, put you younger kids thru school, not cheap, and support you for all those years, so you can do better than we did, thats why my daughter drives a 2002 saub ... Not angry, just proud as long as you grow and do the same for your kids someday...

I was 46 before I got my vette and no, Im not at all disgruntled. I just wish I could have got one a lot earlier. But I was busy raising kids and such for the last 20 some years. Congrats of getting it so early. Just dont screw up now so when youre my age you can still have all the nice toys

I act very humble about it, and don't ever rub it in. I suppose everyone who at first sees me in my Corvette assumes my parents bought it for me, but I don't really care.
I have nothing to prove, and don't feel the need to change their mind even though they're wrong. :auto:
i'm 33.. and work construction... alot of people/friends give me a hard time about the vette.. kinda like.... ohhh not all of us can drive a vette"..... drives me NUTS!
OK...let me add a bit more info so I don't get hammered about who owns what...
97 S-10 was a graduation present, yes, I didn't pay for it, but its in my name and have my own insurance. The 85 S-10 before that I paid for in full, even though my name wasn't on it.
As far as the Vette goes, my name is on it and the insurance is all me. I paid for half of it, and the other was a loan from my father, cause frankly, he wanted it as bad as I did. My father had to hire two guys after I left for college to get over the work at home. He appreciates my work, and rewards me. I got nothing for free.
Us farmers don't spend money we don't have, having the payments to a bank for a toy is something that I would not consider.

Doesn't bother me at all, though I'm not sure where I fit in your definition of older owners (I'm 35). I view it as part of the great Corvette age balancing act and consider new blood to be a good thing.
I think you (really) young folks are getting in at the right time - I expect prices to start sliding up for well-cared-for early C4s in the next 5 to 10 years.
Not at all. I had a new car when I was 16 paid for it, and took care of my grades and no tickets because it would have been gone in a second.
I guess you young guys feel like us guys that waited because we had families and houses ect to buy one and then we get mid-life crisis or they are dirty old men looking for young women wrong. So don't feel bad about having it just take care of it.
:)
Doesn't bother me. When I was 16, one of my friends had a 73 Vette which is what got me interested in them. Later, when I could have bought my own Vette, I opted for a Nissan 300ZX instead (wife, daughter). It was probably the best choice I could have made at that time. If I had bought my Vette then, I'm positive the Ex. would have fought like h3ll to get it when the divorce came around.
I'm now married to my absolute best friend, we have 3 kids, I'm on my 2nd C4, and my sweetie says I can get another one. What reason would I have to be upset??? Life is great, my dream of owning a Vette came true which is more than a lot of people can say for whatever reasons.

Thats cool that you wanted a Corvette. Life is good. It might be better if you were 21 with a Corvette and lived in California.
Then you could drive it all year. But not in the day time too much traffic. :yesnod:

No problem with me. Just be thankful that your parents care for you, have similar interests, and like to share their success with you. My parents are the same way. As such I had a pretty darned good child hood. Just don't take it for granted.
