My Bose would play CD-Rs.It was kinda picky though.I replaced my system with a Kenwood set-up.One unit is the am/fm.cassette and the other unit is a graphic eq with a fold down face that plays CDs.So stacked on top of each other they fill up the double din opening. :chevy
I have a basic $90 Pioneer and I love it, it never skips, has plenty of power and all the preamp outs I need to add amps and subs when I get ready-nothing fancy but I did not want it for the vette,IMHO all that flip down face stuff is a PITA in a manual car. I had a semi with a Clarion head unit in it and it was fantastic too
Ben
Do you have the bose system? That will make it a little harder to replace but not impossible. Pioneer ahas always been my fav. I've had one in my other car for @5 years and no probs. Alpine has good sound too. Just my .02, but I do manage a stereo/ auto acc. shop.
PS oops sorry, Are you replacing the deck or the whole system? I was just thinking the deck but the word system means all or most of the audio components. Let me know, I'll help if I can.
I think I would just replace the head unit and maybe the speakers, I would like to get a unit the can power the speakers without an amp.Does the Bose have amps in the stock system?? I wa goin to put Boston accoustic speakers in and they are a little pricey. Any help will be great
if you want to go quick, easy and cheap... I think you have two choices...
Choice 1: Get a Kenwood CD changer installed. They are pretty cheap. I think my 10 disc changer was less than 100 installed. Cant remember... may be a lot more..
Choice 2: If you already got a PDA, use your media player. Or if you have a mp3 player. This is the better option. Multimedia cards can hold thousands of songs and you dont have to store a CD changer or CD cases in your car storage space. Just get one of those FM connection kits... they are only about $40. I did this and am much happier with this than the CD changer. Its much easier to select songs and other stuff.
Mines now an $800 system (see sig) and I love it!! Just some replacement speakers, I personally would go with Audiobahn or Alpine, and a nice CD player, Alpine or Kenwood, will do it!
All the bose that i've dealt with in Vettes have the amps on the speakers(my 93 included) You probably will have to replace the head unit and the speakers. Are the speakers in the 90 ZR1 in the doors or in the sill area? If they are in the sill area it will be easy to run wires to them and I suggest rewiring all 4 speakers and just bypass the factory wiring. It'll be easier. Bostons are very nice but if they are pricey then I would suggest polk audio, they are priced right and have extremely good sound. the whole system with cd and 4 speakers should be around 500 installed and well under if not. Of course that depends on the CD unit you go with. Any MP3s? I think that is the next thing for stereos, it's like having a cd changer on a single disc!!
I have been reading about double dins?? If you get a head unit that is a double din unit can you just replace the HU and leave all amps and speakers and all will work?? Those units seem about the same size as the original and will fill the space pretty easy and come in High Watts (200 or more total)
