LT1 plug questions
Posted this in tech but can't get a response. Search doesn't work well for me at this time. Thanks.
I want to pick up a set of Rapidfires to try today but didn't want to depend on the Auto Zone/Advance idiots to give me the right ones. What number is called for or what works best? Stock compression, only mildly modded. Also, how much does cutting back the electrode shorten life on the street and what gap should I run if I do this? Stock ignition except for MSD coil and 8.5 wires. Thanks

Re: LT1 plug questions (lspalding)
Not sure of the rapidfires, but I have NGK TR55IX plugs. Cross ref them.
Get the Iridiums. They are fabulous! My car runs better on them than the rapidfires.
I don't know about the Iridium plugs but my experience with the RapidFire plugs is that they are great for about 5K miles then they kinda fade out on you... Just seem like a quick wearing plug IMO...
Okay, unless someone can talk me out of it, I'll try the iridiums. Now, can anyone answer the other questions?
Don't cut them back. You'll see when you get them. They have a tapered ground electrode and the center electrode is almost like a needle. Use recommended gap of (I forget) .045-.050 (?).
I've had the TR55 ix's (Iridiums) installed about a year now and I think they perform flawlessly. They provide a very smooth idle, and a very rapid response. I didn't see any change in fuel economy over the platinum AC-Delco's but then again I wasn't expecting any difference. They were around $60. at NAPA. I'm running them with 8mm Taylor Spiro PRos.
