Default Quick valve cover question

I have an 86E and was just wondering about the emblem on the drivers side valve cover is it suppose to be painted? Mine looks polished and I've notice in engine pictures on other vettes thiers are painted. I'm just curious, I've got to take mine off today and paint them.

Thanks,

They were painted. The bowtie was gold and the area around it was red with black and white checkers on the flags.

I painted mine. It is not too hard to do if you have a very small brush for the details and are patient. The harder part may be to match the red and gold colors with this original.

You can remove the emblem by using dental floss or fishing line behind it and sawing it back and forth. Put back on with high temp silicon.

The emblems are metal and notorious for the paint flaking off.

The cheapest fix is to just polish all the paint off for a clean look. I've seen a lot of them that way, and like the painted look better.
