It is looking more and more like I may need to change to fuel pump. How hard is this? I could not find anything in the archives about this. I assume the tank needs to be removed from the car?
Dont remove the tank.(unhook battery) Take off the gas door. Unhook the hoses. Unbolt it.
Take care nt to get any trash in the hole when you take it out. :chevy
It's really not hard to do at all. Just remove the fuel door, the grommet and you will see the four bolts to pull. The fuel pump and retainer comes out as one piece. Make sur eyou also replace the strainer and look down into the tank to see if you have any besides gas in there. Should take maybe 2 hours at most.
It's an easy job. Go with the Delco unit. It's a little more, but it's worth it. For the most part, everything is straightforward. Make sure you replace the gasket with the o-ring that comes with the kit. It just goes in between the base of the pump and the car. Tighten the assembly down.
You also have to reconfigure the wires a bit. But you'll be able to figure it out. It's not hard. Just take your time. The whole job will take less than 2 hours. Easily.
If you have questions, post it. You'll get a ton of help.
Right, you DONT need to remove the fuel tank to do it. Some bonehead lady at racetronix kept telling me the only safe way to do it is to remove the fuel tank.
I was arguing with her about this and she kept insisting that she cared about my safety and that i needed to remove the tank on a C4, on a Camaro you do. Not a C4.
I was like WTF  So you dont need to remove the tank at all on a C4.
