Im going to go out and teach my 15 year old neice how to drive soon...........in my CORVETTE!Ive got a new truck, not gonna happen, got an old NOVA,manual trans, not gonna happen,so that leaves the trusty VETTE.Am I nuts or what? But how many people can say that the first car they ever drove WAS A CORVETTE!O.K..............Let the onslought begin,I got it coming.
I didn't learn to drive in a vette but the vette was my first car, so you could say i got all my real driving lessons in a vette. Probably the best thing i could of done. Made me learn to respect a vehichle and what its capable of. And another thing, IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!
Whoa  That's nuts! But I'm sure your niece is all smiles :D
Seriously, I think with the sensitive throttle and gobs of power these cars have it's not ideal for learning to drive. It's just something you can loose control of easily if you're inexperienced. But, she's gotta learn sometime...
Anyway, you're bound to have a lot of fun. Just keep her off the gas for a while, especially in turns :yesnod: ...and turns with little gravel pebbles :banghead:

Definitely watch out for that gravel pebbles stuff. I accelerated through a left turn out of my development and even at less than 30mph, I immediately was ninety degrees sideways. And don't forget the Valium for the chapter on parallel parking... ;)
Naw... I think it's cool that you're gonna let someone learn on a Vette. They'll never forget it, long after the car is gone. Just keep up on your insurance! :D
When my daughter was learning to drive, I let her drive the Vette (me in there of course). She did fine. The first time was on the interstate, so it was a little bit much for her but she caught on real quick.
I bought her a Corvette shirt since she now had Corvette time under her belt.
Go for it, she'll be thrilled. Start out in a big empty parking lot. use milk jugs full of water to simulate an autocross cross so she can practice vechile placement and mirror use. (going slow of course).
I take it the vette's an auto trans. Let her drive it a bit, then get the Nova. Everyone should learn to drive a stick.
I learned to drive in a '70 Chevy Suburban. 4spd manual, no power steering or power brakes! I developed new muscles in a hurry...
You've gotta be her favorite uncle, I'll bet! She may never settle for anything less, but that's okay. Dad took me out in the country starting at age 11 in his brand new '65 Mustang w/ floor shift. By the time I got my license, driving was second nature........
Actually when I as 15 my dad took my out in what is now my Vette for my first driving lesson. First take her out to a parking lot, to get a feel for the throttle, its a lot more then most other cars. Then somewhere out in the middle of knowwhere. It gave me a great respect for the power of being behind the wheel. Its powerful enough to scare you some, which I think is a good thing for a new driver.
Well, I didn't teach my 16 year old to drive in my ZR1. However, he now has about 6 months of experience and I've been letting him behind the wheel with me in it. He respects and loves the car almost as much as I do. Not many 16 year olds can go to school and brag about driving an almost new ZR1 (3300 miles). He is the envy of all his friends. I hope it is one of those memories he'll treasure when he is grown. :steering:
I offered to teach my little sister how to drive a stick in my 92  :D I told her the offer is good untill I replace the clutch after that no deal. Shes scared heheheh :reddevil
