1996 LT1 Corvette 4speed Auto Top Speed
Hey,
I know this question has been asked several times, but I have never heard a sure answer and the answers range all over the place.
So my question is, does anyone know what the top, top speed of a 1996 corvette Lt1 Auto and Manuel are?
Thanks for your help anyone who knows, I am very curious and my curiosity is leading me to want to go and find out my self ( Like to avoid those speeds for now, at least until I put on some new tires). :D

Okay... at the risk of rehashing yet another topic;
What is the REAL expected 0-60 time of an LT1 automatic with 2.59s? I have read different things in different magazines, but figured that you guys would know for sure. :)

Are you serious?! With an automatic and a 2.59 rear end? WOW! Now That's cool! I've read like 5.5-5.8. But I figured you guys would have some real-life #s! :thumbs:
PS... if you're not serious... I just got the joke. I think it's past my bedtime! :crazy:

Ya, that is a good point. Really tired when i posted that last night, I forgot there was no manual option with the LT1, just with the LT4 engine.
Thanks for putting me in my place. :withstupid:

Re: 1996 LT1 Corvette 4speed Auto Top Speed (GS788)
Motor trend got anywhere from 167-172 for LT1 six speed Corvettes. unfortunatly the mags don't usually get the autos cause the manufactorers want the best performance numbers published. Motor trend did an article on auto sports cars but did not do speed. In every production run of engines some put out more power than others and some put out less. I think 178 on a stock LT1 is a dream, An LS1 Vette is good for about 175, and an LT5 is good for 175-180. :flag

I've heard the 170 number too, but am skeptical. I have read and would more tend to believe that 160 or so is a realistic number.

Ok i am kind of a car newbie so excuse this if it doesn't make sense.
So with a higher number for rear end ration you get better acceleration and lower you get better top end? If i am wrong, please correct me I am eager to know the truth. Thanks

Uhg! Motor trend did a fastest american cars article in june 1993 and only got 162 out of an LT1 6speed. Fast forward to July 1995, and the LT1 6 speed ran to 167. Funny thing is the slowest car was a Honda prelude which ran the minimum to qualify for the article at 140 MPH the 5.0 Mustang Cobra was disqualified after a 137 top speed run :lol:
