there is a forum member trying to sell his C4 and claiming he gets 30 mpg? i hav 2 C4's in my family and have had 4 -5 of them over the past yrs. the best i ever got was 25.6. has anyone else ever got or heard of 30 mpg? in a c4.
now i get over that in my 98 C5 on the flats.
I saw 30.2 once. That was the highest I saw on a trip. On average on the HW driving, I usually see around 27 or so in 6th doing 65ish. Now if my 79 could only do that
I once averaged over 30 mpg on a trip to the Jersey shore (about 90 miles from my house). Now I'lll have to admit that this a very flat roadway and my entire intention was to achieve the best MPG so I really babied it and kept the cruise at about 65 mph the whole trip.
....about 3 years ago i left ellensberg, wash...drove over the mountains west to the marysville area in my 1990 c4 and i got 31.5 on that trip......my corvette was a 6 speed, with the 3.08 rear end....plus a long downhill on that west side........

Re: 30 mpg???? (JSA 007)
Yup, a good C4 can get over 30 mpg on the highway :yesnod:
But averaging that, I'm not sure I could do it  :auto: :auto:
Not all Vettes will achieve this though... I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but 6spds are the ones that get the higher economy generally... If you have an A4 and the performance 3.07 rear you're not going to see that...
My last Vette was a 96 LT1 A4 with 3.07 rear and it never saw better than 27mpg... My LT4 6spd does way better than that so far, at least in the city... I haven't had it on a sustained highway cruise yet to check normal highway MPG... So far about 2mpg more in the city though...
The major difference I notice is at cruising speed... 70 mph in my A4 car was ~2050RPM... 70 mph in my 6spd is around 1700RPM if I remember correctly, I gotta hit 78-80 to reach 2000RPM in the 6spd...
I haven't had mine long but dod get 26 on one tank that was a mix of about 90% fairly open freeway and 10% stop and go freeway.
30 mpg may be within reach for a long run on open road in mine if I drive the speed limit. I would have to use my energency flashers so i didn't get run over though :D
Yesterday I drove my '88 from Richfield, OH to W.Nyack, NY (~7.5hrs) and averaged 30mpg. That included two "pit stops" along I-80 in PA.
On the rather flat Garden State Parkway in NJ she pulls 31-32mpg at 65mph with the top off. And that is in full race trim; you can see the mods in my sig.
So, if he says 30mpg I would say it's very likely with an L98, A4 and 2.59 gears.
i got 33mpg on my 400 mile trip to sc thats with 2.59s tho and an auto trans
cruisin about 75 80 all the way stopped for gas one time in conway ! :jester
