A while ago I asked how to turn the light off, especially when the hood is open for a long time, as in a show.
Many replied to disconnect the fuse, but I found a better way.
1.Open hood
2. Disconnect the fuse connection, there is one on each side.
3. There is a pair of wires coming from the lights down to the fuse connection.
4. Cut one of the wires in a convient place.
5. Buy an insulated set (male / Female), of spade connectors.
6. Crimp them on each end of the wire you cut.
7. Re-connect the fuse plug,then plug the male/female together.
Total cost= $.72, Total time 5 mins/side,and Now there is no fishing around for the fuse conection..
Take it to the next step and install a simple toggle switch. That is my project as soon as it warms up a little bit....
I installed a small toggle switch to cut off both lights.
I put the switch in a small plastic box
attached to the inner fender wall
Works fine no problems.

Re: Engine compartment Lights. (lbitp37)
Toggle switch might be nice, but 1st, where do you mount it,2nd it will corrode.
You can mount it/them anywhere and they will be far less suseptible to corrosion than exposed spade connectors. I put rocker switches in mine, mounted under the hood, they look 'professional', and they work beautifully...one finger operation. Quick. Easy.

I did that about a year ago. Secured the light to the inside of the fender right by the fuse. Now I just hit the button and the lights go out. Easy as pie and not a ghetto as having to pull the fuse.
Found this paint drawing I did when I posted about it a year ago..
