Hey im Collin im new here. Im 16 and my dad owns a 98 vette. I realize im only 16 but im here to soak up and learn as much as i can. I just got my second job the other day and hope by the time im 18 (next two years) i will be able to purchase my own 88-95 C4. My dad owned a 95 torch red C4 and i loved it. His 98 i love as well im just not as big on the wider body. Well im here just to introduce myself and to ask a few questions .
What are common problem areas on the 88-95 models?
Pricing?
I have an idea on pricing im just wondering what to look for when inspecting the car. MY dad is very knowledgable in this area but i as well would like to know the key areas and where most problems on the C4 occur. This is a very well laid out forum and thanks for being patient with a newb like me. Ok well have a good one take care.
why did you not include earlier years if you included 88? Maybe 89 and up for the trans? Or 92 and up for the motor?? And why did you stop at 95? 96 was a very good C4 year.....
Yes i transmission and motor played a factor but i am only 16 and have limited financials. most 94-96 in good condition with low miles arent exactly cheap, at least to me. Dont worry its not that a hate some vettes. I just dont have as good as jobs as some of u, im just a life gaurd and Host at lonestar lol.
If you want a 6spd, why did you include model year 88? If you want an LT1, why did you include anything below 92? If you think 88 is alright, then why not 85-87? They can be had for real cheap, nice strong L98 motor, but auto trans is better than 4+3 in those years...

Re: Questions about C4 (aflyc5)
The best advice I can give you about buying a C4, is never buy one without checking it out in person.
Be more concerned with its condition, rather than advertised mileage.
The fewer owners, the better.
It's better to buy one with a complete service history.
A lot of people on this forum will tell you "newer is better". You are young, and this will be your first Vette. There is nothing wrong with an `85-`91 L-98. Don't let horsepower, aka egopower, get you upsidedown moneywise in a Vette you may not be abble to afford.
ooo sorry. Well i kinda threw out a random number i meant c4's in general
biut i prefer a 91 up. 6 speed is a plus and an LT 1 is a plus. Im just saying i dont have the financials to be picky. sorry
Ok, so 91 and up would indicate you want the newer exterior style :yesnod: There was a lot of changes going on in those early 90s...
89 brought about the 6spd, and still had old body style, L98, and digi-dash
90 did away with the digi-dash, but has the old body and L98
91 showed the newer body style and still has the L98
92 got the LT1 to complete the updates
I know there are some good prices on 92-93 LT1s, but there are distributor problems in that engine too.
If money is really an issue, than 85-89 is your best bet; tons of cheap ones and some are in great conditon  The L98 is an awesome motor for a first car, I LOVE the digi-dash and the older style round tail-lights are definitly for me :yesnod:
So figure out what style you like best, and then you to the C4 for sale section :yesnod: I think buying from a forum member would give you a better taken care of Vette
You are 16, focus on school. The Vette can come later. You are young and have plenty of time to get the "Vette you always wanted" Make a deal with the old man and if you get good grades he can pass the '98 over to you and he can get a C6. A win win for both of you. :)
Hey guys we probably shouldn't use too many of these ------->
He's only 16. Not quite legal for him yet. :jester
Whichever year you go with you'll enjoy. It's great that your dad is a Corvette owner and can point you in the right direction. You've got a tasteful eye liking the C4 along with it probably being the easiest for you to afford. Good luck and be sure to post pics once you get it.
JAS 007 Thanks for puttin that im simple broken down terms helped alot. and HA i would never be able to pry thtat vette outa my dads hands, only time he lets me drive it alone is when i take it to get gas and i have to pay lol. Welcome kiddo! Don't let these guys give you too hard of a time! Gotta love a kid who's into Vettes instead of rice mobiles with coffee cans!  Now just tell me you don't like rap and I'll adopt you myself!
Hey Collin ... welcome. Take your time looking for a C4. Save your money and pay cash. When you find the one of your dreams, check out the owner as closely as the car. You can learn an awful lot about a car by learning about it's owner.
