Have any of you undertaken changing the color of your interior? I have an 84 with red guts and it has that classic 20 year old red fade... you know where no two carpet panels match.
I'm thinking I would like to go to black but I am not finding complete kits out there for a full interior swap. I've seen the carpet kits at Mid America and the individual parts available at Corvette Central but I can't find kits and parts to mix and match that give me all the carpet and mouldings I need.
Is there a kit out there that has it all?
Is this too much of an undertaking?
Has anyone out there done this other than the guys with the big (well, bigger than mine) budget and huge garage on the Vette Magazine Web Site?
By the way those guys at Vette are doing a great job of covering their progress.
My interior was what thay called dark bronze. It was worn out. So I decide I wanted a saddle colored interior anyway and called Contemporary Corvette and bought a near perfect interior with every piece that was saddle, for $850 shipped. It also came with sport seats :D an update. I did change the seat tracks over. And if you're going to do this, do yourself a favor and go to home depot,or the like, and buy some duct insulation tape. Its about 12" wide and 3' long in a roll. Foil on one side. About $15 a roll. Takes 4 rolls. After you put this on the floor and back of the door panels, you'll be thrilled how quiet your vette is. :yesnod: It is a bit of an undertaking, but well worth it. The only thing you'll really hate is the right hand hush panel, under the dash pad. :cuss

No kit for everything...just a carpet kit for front/back.
Door panels and hush panels will be a separate purchase.
Easy...can be done in an afternoon...
I did mine...got rid of the red/red interior and did black carpet and black/red seats...here's the pic yet again :D
changed my white vette interior from yuck blue to black/red... had grey leather seats and just got some black oklay seat covers with red trim, replaced the carpet with black and new door panels black w/red trim.. Now all i have to do is remove the cheap wood grain that was on the dash and console and restore them back to black.... :D
My '86 coupe has the original Bronze interior. The carpet is shot, seats are worn, etc. I'm also thinking about a change to new black leather seats and carpet. But, has anyone had good success with using the vinyl dyes/paints on the door panels, sill trims, console side panels, dash top, etc? Will they typically hold up for the long run or peel and fade? The cost to replace everything can add up quickly, but I also don't want to invest all the time/labor to paint and dye if it won't hold up. Any advice? By the way, the exterior is silver beige metallic.

Interesting question, I never thought of dying what I had...
Auto paint supply stores, including NAPA, have prep chemicals, to clean all the silicone and dirt, then prep the plastic or vinyl for the dye. You can go with spray cans or, do what I did and take the color code of the one you want and have them mix a quart and use a spray gun. A quart cost me about $65, and was an exact match to the seats. I bought a used interior like I said earlier, and freshened up the door panels and the rear carpet. Matched perfectly. I also dyed the top dash pad saddle. Looks factory.
