Default How do I secure my car while transporting?

I am hauling my car 50 miles to a show in an enclosed trailer. The trailer has four D-ring type tie downs on the floor. I plan to rent or buy a set of those heavy duty tie down straps with the tightening ratchet on them but I am not sure where to safely grab the car.

The owners manual says to use the four oval shaped holes in the frame on the inner side of the wheel wells but the forward-aft spread on the D-rings is greater than the length of the car and the ovals are fairly high in the wells.

Anyone have any experince hauling their C4?

Yes I haul Corvettes all of the time including my 96. In the front tie down to the lower A-arms in the rear tie down to the camber rods. The straps are difficult to get around the A-arm but if you wiggle it around it will pass through. What show are you going to?

Thanks for the info. I was not sure the A-arms would be a good place to grab it.
Going to the Seattle Roaster Show next weekend. We are doing a club display for the Corvette Marque Club of Seattle. We'll have at least one of each generation.

Duct Tape :p:
Run 2 staps up under the front bumper and around that metal support brace that goes across the car that the bumper bolts to in the front.....There should be one in the back too in between the mufflers if you cant get the the tow hooks easily....just be careful the way you tighten it so you don't bend your exhaust tips..

I used to do this all the time when i worked for ferrari dealer.

Lock the straps into the floor, then take the clothe parts and run it through one of the spokes of your wheels. Watch the tire valve!!! Don't run a tie down over it.

Tighten the tie down. Do all four corners and vwala.

this is what i did when i moved the car to europe.
needless to say it was a longer journey....

anyways:
there are 4 tabs with holes on the frame rail. take a flash light and look under the car.
i bought four shackels(i hope this is spelled right  ) and put the in these holes. then i used 4 tie down straps (these are the heavy duty ones. you can find them at any home depot or so. the ones i bought were yellow in color and at least 2 inch wide).
i cross tied the car (left to right and vice versa)
in addition to that, i nailed a couple 2x4 in front and behind the wheels, as well as on the side too.
i guess i'm a bit cautious, because many people told me that the 2x4 alone would be good enough, but than, what is good enough for your vette ?

Scorpion is right. There are slots in the rear frame for tie downs, and there are several spots in the front to use to secure. Do not use the A-arms. You tighten down those straps to much, you might tweak the A-arm frame.

ValleyBacker has a good idea as well.

On another thought, just drive it. You're car will enjoy getting used.
