I replaced my lift struts last weeks with J.C. Whitney supplied parts. The rods are about 3/8" diameter compared to the factory parts (they are about 1/4" diameter). Made in U.S.A., only time will tell if they are a value or not. At $35 each, it will be worth the experiment (compared to $69 each at Ecklers). It sure is nice to watch that huge chunk of glass raise itself, I must have played with it for an hour!!! Didn't fall on my head once!!!
I have an original drivers side w/defroster from an 85 for sale. $25 plus shipping if anyone's interested. I needed a passenger side, wife for valentines bought me a pair because she didn't know which one I needed. Replaced them both to keep the appearance the same, but the original works just fine.
this is something i need to put on my list of things to do :smash: my hatch goes up about 4" after releasing it, and then with my assistance it'll go the rest of the way :D

That's how mine is..I plan to get new struts ASAP.
