Re: Alarm 1985? (Darth Vader)
"The security light flashes when the ignition is in Lock and the doors are opened. It continues to flash until the Theft Deterrent system is armed. Once the system is armed the light stops flashing but remains lit for approximately 3 seconds.
If the doors are closed without arming the system the security light goes out immediately. On re-entry the security light will flash until the door is closed or ignition is turned on."
doesn't really say much about it staying on... but i know it does under some conditions. Time to consult the FSM.
:iagree: With CentraCoaster. It's the same on my 86. If you are reffering to the light staying on AFTER the door is closed, check this.
You will find a "button" (do not know the exact name) on the door sill area near the door hinges on the inside. When the door is closed, this "button" gets depressed by the door and puts the "security" light out.
1.) Open the drivers side door and keep the passanger door closed. The "security" light should be on.
2) Press and hold the "button" that is near the door hinges of the drivers door.
The "security" light should go out, and come back on when you release it.
If it still stays on with the "button" pressed, that "button" may be bad.
Try the same thing on the passanger's side.

Re: Alarm 1985? (86PACER)
pacer, i thought about that, but wouldn't a bad door switch cause the interior lights to stay on also? or are you saying the alarm has a seperate switch from the door switch??
Central,
You are correct. That same switch turn your interior lights out too. I think we need to know if his "security" light stays on AFTER the doors are closed. :lurk:
