Before I go to the drags to test my car I wanted to find out if it normal for the auto to not hold 1st when you have the shift lever in the position. No matter what I do it always changes into 2nd. Am I doing something wrong?? :withstupid:
Mine was like that too; the main problem was with the boot.
First make sure that the boot isn't bunching up or too tight so as to prevent the shifter from going to the full back position. You can even try pulling it forcably into 1st and holding it there.
If that is not the problem try adjusting the linkage. There is a slotted cable head where the cable fastens to the tranny shift lever. You can loosen the retainer nut and tweak the shifter position slightly; just be sure it still engages the park position completely.
I always thought this was a safety thing... as to not over rev the motor...
Mine'll always pull from second down to first when the R's get right to not over rev it, but not before. Say I am at 4000 in 2nd and I pull it down to 1st it'll wait 'til the R's come down to 2500-3000 before it will downshift. I always thought this was normal.
