Default Shocks Question

Would it be okay to replace "only" the front shocks at this time then replace the backs in a month or so... you guessed it,,, i have enough to get a pair of the Edelbrock Performer IAS Shocks (selected them cause they 'say' good performance and smooth ride) - she doesn't race just daily driver...
The bilstein are too stiff a ride for me.. thoughts would be appreciated...vinnie

:lurk:

I have the front shocks off my z51 '85 right now. I was thinking of driving it tomorrow without front shocks just too see how badly it rides! If anything, I'll know what to look for when the shocks eventually go out. :auto:

I hear they do this sort of thing in Nascar, lock up or remove a shock on purpose, send the driver out on the track... so he knows what it feels like. Then if it does happen during a race, he'll be able to identify the problem easily.

Be VERY very carefull. Expect your braking distance to be increased signifigantly and to be bounced around like popcorn in the microwave. If you do it, let us know how extreme it really is.

I've come close at the drag strip.

I have adjustable shocks that turn OFF on the lowest setting ( Hal/QA1's ).

I wouldn't want to drive it that way on the street.

You can have you bilsteins revalved to whatever setting you want when they're rebuilt.

Keep in mind you have the stiff springs and swaybars.

I drove my brother's lifted Toyota straight axle mini truck 500 miles on the highway with no front shocks.... that was interesting! :smash:

It seems that maybe the question wasn't worded correctly or got lost in differnt thoughts...

I currently have gas shocks installed....(frt & rear) and i'm thinking about changing the fronts only to the new Edelbrock's, then next month changing the rears to Edelbrocks.... NEVER would the car be without shocks... just wondering if the different shocks would hurt... Don't think so... it'll still have 4....
