hatch release problem
I have a 93 coupe & the problem I have is the rear hatch doesn't want to release all the time. I was wondering if anyone else here had this problem? Do I have to replace the plunger or the whole unit? Is this a dealer only part also?

If it clicks but doesn't pop up, you need new gas struts. If it doesn't click try another switch. My 87 has 3. No click usually means bad connections at the switch. Also, it wont work if tranny is in gear. Good luck.

IT Clicks and works sometimes, also when it doesn't release if I bang on the window where the hatch attaches it will work. So I just want to be sure whaqt I have to replace.

Does it take very little effort to close the hatch? If so, the struts are weak. Another tip-off is if the hatch does not open very quickly or go all the way up. I've replaced hatch struts several times on various C4's. It takes about ten minutes; they just snap on and off. Support the hatch itself with a prop because one support will not keep the hatch open. If it smacks you on the head, it will smart. I speak from experience. :D
