Both sides of 101 freeway, from Ventura to Santa Barbara LOADED with CHP, one followed me all the way thru Ojai, even clocking me on the 50 mi per hr 101 to 33 north ramp. Come on ! A 50 mph connector ramp! The word is no breaks for moving with traffic and 3 mph is the margin for error.
Hmmm. Wonder what's up with that? Did something happen? Are the Viper/Lamborghini/Ferrari clubs having a cruise? Or, are they just having a "sheep shearing" revenue enhancement weekend?
There's been a lot of heavy speed enforcement over the last 2 weeks throughout California. The CHP (California Highway Patrol) is on a get tough on speeders campaign to get all vehicles to slow down. Big rigs are getting hit the hardest since they are limited to a top speed of 55 mph. The fines imposed on these trucks can run up to 3 times that of a car. Also fines are doubled in road construction zones. It’s my understanding that the main reason stems from a sharp increase in accident recently.
I personally don't have a problem with the highway patrol wanting the motoring public to slow down abit but I don’t feel that law enforcement is going about it the rite way. As a driver that spends a great deal of my time on these roads for a living, I would like to see more diligent enforcement pertaining to drivers rules of conduct. I see more accidents as the result of tailgating, abrupt lane changing, inattentive driving and rude behavior then anything else. Tagging people for speeding doesn’t make up for poor driving habits.
Peace officers need to set a better example on how to drive as well. It’s not uncommon to see police changing lanes, entering and exiting the highways without signaling their intentions. The highway patrol is well known for cruising well above the posted speed limit without using emergency lights. This doesn’t set a good impression for those who may drive @ 5 mph over the posted speed limit but otherwise drive in a courteous manner.
In Europe you are much more likely to get pulled over for driving in an unsafe manner then for speeding 10 mph over the posted limit. I know this 1st hand. I rarely saw traffic accidents when I was living there. The police didn’t hesitate pulling a driver over for driving like an idiot though.
There was a report on the radio that said they were on an enforcement kick. I'm all for it. I don't mind driving fast but the other folks scare the $h1t out of me. Driving 80 and having SUVs and low riders pass you while weaving in and out is not fun. I think deaths are really up a lot, therefore more enforcement.
I usually don't see any on the 405 during commute times. Yesterday they were all over. :auto:
They tend to harass the vette owners a bit! :lolg:
No doubt about that. In the last two weeks, Ive been pulled over twice. And I wasnt even speeding. Which is shy I didnt get any tickets. The Vette just looks fast and driving with the top off doesnt help.

I didn't know CHP cars had turn signals, Ive never seen them used
I've also heard that highway 50 from Sacramento east is getting special attention this week.
I heard about a crackdown in the Southern California areas. There is no longer a 5 mph margin of error. It has been dropped to 2 or 3. I was just given a ticket for going 42 in a 40. :bs I know that the 118, 14, and 5 are especially loaded with cops.
I don't mean to flame you but I find it hard to understand how you would be singled out twice in 2 weeks and tell us it's because your Vett looks fast. What probable cause did the cop give you for the stop? Did you get a ticket?
I'll be the 1st to admit that I push the speeding limit everyday. I keep with the flow of traffic while trying to maintain a safe following distance. Cops for the most part don't look at me twice. They've got bigger fish to fry...
I do agree that being sited for less than 5 over is pure BS. If your stopped, don't get into a debate over the stop. Fight it in court. Police know that a certain percentage of drivers would rather pay the fine then getting it thrown out before it comes to trial. If it does go to trial, admit no wrong doing on your part and leave it up to a judge to decide if there was real intent on your part to speed. If a cop tells the court that you where doing 10 over and you say that it was only 5 over you have now admited that you where in fact speeding. GUILTY...

not a problem... Both times, I took off from a light kind of fast and my exhaust can turn heads. Both times were on roads where the speed limit was 50mph(kinda high for the type of road.) Both times, I had my top off with the radio kinda loud. Both times I never broke the speed limit and I didnt take off any faster than I see a lot of SUVs take off. Both times I didnt notice the cop was somewhere close to me. :blueangel:
There have been times where I could have been pulled over for doing the exact same thing! It's no fun if you can't step on it once and awile. Just watch out for the cops before you get a little frogish..

Re: Heavy CHP activity (redwing76)
During the Forum's SoCalMountainRun today, we did notice an increased presence of CHP on the I-15 between Temecula and San Diego. No unusual speeding enforcement directed at us.....fortunately.
In fact, the only encounter with the CHP was a very friendly warning for a minor traffic infraction, a smile, and a "have a nice day". Cool officer, to be sure.
