What is wrong with the Bose systems.
I have seen a lot of posts here complaining about the Bose systems that came in the C4's. What are the problems? I always thought that Bose made good equipment.

The Bose Speakers are great, but the rest of the system is crap, who knows maybe it was just a bad design IMO.
I removed the amps from each speaker, and rewired them to a 800Watt Rockford Amp with a basic Sony CD-Player. Works great and never sounded better.

a few years ago i used to work at circuit city and the bose reps were just as honest as used car sales men. seriously if you asked them a question about anything technical they would anser with bose is a technology company we dont sell watts or performance we sell technology. Basically bose finds ways to make crappy stuff sound good. Also they make their stuff so you can only use it with other bose stuff. Its rediculous. Thats why they suck. For a stock system in their time they were probably pretty decent though.

Truthfully, everything bose makes is crap. Just great marketing.

nothing but problems and too much money to fix... way to much for a crappy sounding blows system..JMO i ripped mine out and went with a traditional sytem..sounds great and was less than getting my blows stereo fixed

if i toss my bose system can i use the stock bose speaker wire going to run 50 watts per chanel?
I just finished my install. Ran the speaker wires to the back, super easy. Ran wires to the door a little harder but still pretty easy. Use a coat hanger and hook the speaker wire to it then run it to the door from the inside of the car. With patience and a little finness it's easy. Good Luck

Guess I'll dare to be different. Personally I like the Bose products. I think the Delco/Bose system in the Vette does a very good job. Even with the bass setting just past the neutral setting, the bass still booms with the hip-hop stations. And I get a full range of sound no matter what I'm listening to. With 12+ years of services so far its still doing a great job. I wonder how many other car audio systems that are the original system still function 12 years later giving great quality sound?
I also have a set of Bose home speakers I've had since the earlier 80's and they still sound excellent.
I wonder sometimes, how much folks bash the C4 product from nearly every angle. Yet they all seem to 'luv' their C4's. I just don't understand it thought, for example in 1993, the features, styling, performace and overall appeal of the C4 was much ahead of its time. Even today it still keeps up with new products rolling off the assembly lines. Another example that tickles me, a current Lexus ad, talks about passive keyless entry system but promotes it as the car know who you are not you knowing where your car is, by locking and unlocking itself. Hmmm, 13 years ago my 93' Vette had passive keyless entry. My Vette knows who I am when I approach it and unlocks itself and turns the lights on for me. And the reverse when I leave it.
I guess we all can find fault in everything we make and buy, considering we are all only human.

Only thing I dislike is:
small radiator - Replace with a Ron Davis
worthless brakes - Replaced with Brembos
worthless bose - Replaced with a custom system
Other than those three things. I love my car.
My car is 15 years old this October. 95% of the cars on the road still can't touch it.
Re: What is wrong with the Bose systems. (Jeffvette)
Bose doesnt sound bad at all really, especially in a coupe. The big problems are A. its a very unreliable system B. There are way better components available so why not have quality stuff?

Bose sucks! When it works it sucks, when it doesn't work its better!

Just make sure the amplifier that you use can handle the 1 ohm load that the bose speakers have. Not many can but I am gonna use the rear ones until my Polk 8" subs show up and since they are for low frequency I am wiring them seriesed (boy that looks misspelled  ) to get a more reasonable 2 ohm load.
Oops, ok even more funny, or embarassing :bb I missed the word "wire" in the quote..... :leaving:

Re: What is wrong with the Bose systems. (6t9l4t6)
IMO the Blose units sound like trash. When my bose amps started to go I yanked the entire system and replaced with aftermarket. It cost me less than it would have to replace the bose components and it sounds 10x better. I then turned around and sold the bose crap on Ebay and it nearly paid for my new system.
Re: What is wrong with the Bose systems. (6t9l4t6)
Most people are comparing 10-15? year old technology to what is available today and guess what its a little dated. But,
- My 92 bose sounds better than my 2003 Z06's CD (I my opinion)
- My 92 bose's CD player has broken twice in 3 years (junk mechanism with lots of moving parts)
- To upgrade the Bose to something modern it you need to upgrade the entire system - speakers, wires, connectors, speaker enclosures, head, receiver (did I miss anything?) I think they designed the car around it.
In 5-10 years -- we are going to be saying exactly the same thing about obsolete NAV systems in todays cars.
BTW.. I keep mine because its too much trouble to change and because I like the natural integrated look.
Re: What is wrong with the Bose systems. (6t9l4t6)
Many will probably agree with me, the Bose system of the 90's is alot better than the Bose system of the 80's. That being said, it is still old technology and there is better equipment out there.
