Default additives to engine

I was wondering what the thoughts were on additives that seal cracks in the head and head gaskets. Someone told me about an additive called "Steel" something, that you could add to the engine and it would seal up any cracks in the gaskets and head.

Is this a good thing and if so what are the proper additives to use?

thanks

Those products are strictly for temp use and I can't think of one that would help a head gasket or crack in the head. Those additives are fine for holes in radiators, but that is about it. Most have a chemical composition that reacts to air and coolant to stop up the leak. These additives also will contribute to a blocked up radiator. Cheap temp fix? No such thing. I would use it in a beater, but not my Vette. When you go to fix the heads or head gaskets, you might as well install a new radiator at the same time. My $0.02. :smash:

I'd agree with whitvette. If anything's cracked in there, most of the products might just add to your problem. Unless they say specifically that they will seal those things safely, then I'd stay away from em for a vette. I use a microlubricant called Z-Max that slicks the valves and pistons cuz it melds in with the metal and you don't have to worry about over-filling or anything, but that removes carbon deposits etc........it's not really a "sealer" so to say. Some radiator sealers like Barrs CAN clog radiators if they're old radiators...........so he's right on that, but remember these products are really not for vehicles with parts falling apart already unless they specifically say they are. They assume all else is ok and that that's your only problem. I know we aren't talking about radiators here, but for valve sealers I think a sealer like you talk about sounds familiar from something I saw yesterday at Checker. I would read the back carefully before u put it in like all products being used for vettes. But unfortunately I've never used anything like that.
