Got into a discusion w/5 fellow Vette owners the other day & the question came up... You ever replace the tailight (bulbs) on your C4?" None of us had, & thought wow that's amazing {these cars are all ove 15 years old & no rear taillight replace}.. & how the heck could you reach 'em?
That's the question, how do you replace 'em?
something you mention this. i had to replace one of mine the other day. first one ever. i don't know how to take the tailight lenses off on the early model c4's, so this is what i did. i took the license plate off and reached my hand in there. turned the socket for the bulb and pulled it out of the lense. i then let it hang down below the car (by the exhaust). switched bulbs, then held it back up under the car while my other hand grabbed it through the license plate hole. then put it back in the lense. sorry if that don't make sense...it's too early in the morning :D oh and btw, i replaced one of the inner bulbs. if it was one of the outter ones, i don't think i would have been able to reach it going through the hole behind the license plate.
I figured it would be a PITA, The only way I thought of was thru the plate... I measued my arm & thought the outer one has to have a better way... I like the "scratch your arm" comment (true to life)
I have an 87 vert. I reached up between the stock muffs and the bumper. I am 6'4 and over (way) 250lbs, and my arm (almost) fit. It took a while, squeezing it in and left some nice scratches and dent lines that lasted a few DAYS. But, it wasn't impossible. Almost. :banghead: But not impossible.
The 84-90 models require you to hire a 5 year old girl to snake her arms in there. :D God were my forearms bloody after doing that. I put the "long life" bulbs in though.
well for my 88..I had to remove 8 screws from the top of the bumper, 5 from the side and 4 wheel well. Pul l the cover straight off and tada!...easy access!

  I'll remember to bring my daughter down
Won't work for me, since my forearms are 18" around :banghead:
Mine was easy (96). A couple of screws, remove then lens, then pop in the new bulb.
Yeah, same here, just pulled the right one out of my '95 tonight. I've never seen a bulb half burnt out before, but this one was...it still worked (a little), but over half of it was all smokey on the inside...odd.
