Default Oil Level Question

Hi All
What is the best way to read the dipstick in my C4. I think I may have to much oil in her, The oil comes above the criss-crosse's on the dip stick. What is the best way to tell?

Sounds a little full. Pull the drain plug and empty out a little. If it burns oil like my truck, check it in a few days. It will be fine then. :)

First, did you take the reading on level ground and after the engine was off for around 5 minutes? Did you just do an oil change and refill with the proper amount of oil?

The chances of the dipstick tube being wrong or the dipstick itself being wrong is also possible. Not a common problem but....

If the car is due for a oil change, I would drain and refill with the proper amount of oil according to the owner's manual then check the oil level. You should be somewhere within the marks.

Otherwise, you can simply pull the oil filter and replace with a new one. That will take about a half-quart from the pan. Shut the engine off after starting to refill the new filter, let it sit for about 5 minutes and check the level again with the car sitting level.
