question about shift boot ring
Ok, this is wierd, but I just bought this 87 4+3. I have the ring that you pull up on for reverse, but is there another ring below it that holds the leather to the shift rod? I see where what looks like a ring is supposed to go, but someone taped my boot up with electrical tape. Question is, does this ring come with a new boot (already ordered one from Ecklers) and if not, where can I get the ring to hold the top of the shift boot to the shift neck? Please help!

A new shift boot should come with the ring. I made my own shift boot out of marine vinyl,and folded over the top of the boot, then glued it to the ring. This ring was still on the old boot when I took it all apart, and had to pry the staples out of it to reuse it.
A quick scoot through the parts manual only shows the boot with the ring already there, and no external ring.
