I am going to store my Corvette in brother-in-law's very large garage while I am building a new house. He does woodworking there and generates lots of dust. A cover would help, but I am worried about scratches:eek:. Any advice or brands anyone?
I have no problems with a car cover. I do this with my boat when you are talking heavy dust. I would put the car cover on and then put a tarp over the car cover. You aren't worried about trapping moisture because it's in the garage but man that wood might cover the car cover and when you take it off that could scratch it and a lot easier to clean so when you want to use the cover again you can just use that. Just my two cents here.
If your storing it inside, a flannel cover is best. For outside a NOAH evolution IV is great. Just avoid using a non cloth type cover, you know the cheap plasticky materials are no good.

This is a really big garage. My car will be going in the corner that already holds his younger son's motorcross enclosed trailer and his older son's project mustang (beggers can't be choosey).
Do I really need a tarp on top of the car cover? Where is the best place to buy a cover?
Suggestion: Go to a fabric store and buy 14 yards of cheap flannel or other soft material 54 inches wide. You can find it for as little as $1.00 a yard. Sew it together length wise so you have a piece 108 inches wide by 7 yards long. Cover your car with that then an Evolution IV cover. Car will stay clean and scratch free.
A car cover on a car outside, with the wind wipping around will scratch the paint.Ive seen paint removed by a cover that was put on a car and left outside.Put a clean cover on a clean car and go get the thin plastic sheets used in house painting and put that over the car.It should be alright.

Buy the best cover you can that way you can use it inside and out in the future and you're not wasting money to buy again. A lot of people like Noah brand check the Corvette Forum prices at the top. http://store.yahoo.com/corvetteforum...purchases.html
I have a MaxTech it was suggested to me by a Corvette place and I like it, it's a four layer and came with a bag a lock $99.00 at Corvette America. I like the tarp on top because when you pull out that and take it outside you rinse it off, and the cover now can be taken off keep without getting any of that wood particles on the car that could scratch. Home Depot for a tarp.
i think the cover will protect the paint just fine. but that won't stop that sawdust getting everywhere from under the car, your engine especially. i would'nt do it. :nono:

If you go this route, use 100% cotton. No polyester rayon blend. I say stick with the good car cover and tarp idea.
i use a flannel cover with a "the Wall" all weather cover over the top of it in my storage barn.
the outdoor covers ive felt just feel to rough to put directly against the paint.
i would not be surprised at all if they scratched clearcoat if installed directly on the car and left out in the wind.
if you just use a flannel cover fine dust will be under the cover when you take it off.
another worry is someone using your car for a bench when no-ones looking.the extra thickness of flannel under a high end outdoor cover is a plus if that happens.
cats, small dogs and squirrels be damned! :yesnod:
