Is there a bracket to fasten a plate to the front bumper? I took off the old one and saw no holes. Also, has anyone bought the clear contoured plate cover from Madvet? How does it fit? When washing the car does alot of water get behind so you have to keep taking ot off to dry it?
So many questions! You make my head hurt!
I've never messed with mine. I don't have to have one and I kinda like the "corvette" one that came on it :yesnod:
The covers are held in by two screws. Notice the two tabs at the top. These should match two slots in the top of the tag area. There should be two dimples in the bottom for screws or holes if a tag has been on before.
Here in Texas they are hell on front license plates, so I got the clear cover. I like it, never had much trouble with it. Wipe the inside off regularly.

I actually bought this same one from MAD and couldnt get it to fit. I didnt want to mess with cutting it and since my vette (85) just got repainted it, it seemed like any fit would be so tight it would carve up my paint down there. So now my clear cover is sitting in a box of other vette parts! I have seen c5s with a nice fit plate but no c4s....Im guessing someone on here has one. Also there is nothing but the two screws to keep in the factory plate. They go into the same fastener clips as used on a bunch of parts of the car. Good luck!
Not sure what the problem is with your's but there are two holes below where the license plate goes that the two retaining screws go. As far as fitting tight, mine is a snug fit but not real tight. I've got C4 screw caps on all 4 screws holding my license plate on. Looks pretty good.

Here in MA they are brutal about front plates, too.. In fact, when I bumped into a State Trooper the other day, he gave me a load of crap about not having the plate... Fortunately, it was on my front seat from just having an inspection...
The guy at the station that inspected it says "Where's your front plate, you have to have one".. I said "I do, it's on my front seat.. If you want, I'll put it on, but I'm taking it right back off as soon as I drive outa here"..
Phew... two years in a row that line has worked :steering:
My car is still registered in AZ so no front plate (car was originally sold in AZ). Someday I'll have to register it in MD and will then have to install the plate- I'll also purchase one of the clear, contoured covers in an attempt to maintain the lines of the bumper.
I got the clear contour cover for my 95. My main problem with it has been condensation when I wash it. I clean it out every so often but I like it a lot better with the cover than without. I suppose I could run without the plate, but why give them a reason to pull you over.... :skep:
