:iagree: There is one production 1983 and it is in the vette museum. And they thought they had it all worked out by 84...... :lolg:
  Not to be disagreeable, but the plant moved from St Louis to Bowling Green in the last year of C3 production. Most, if not all 82's were produced in Bowling Green, 81'S or some anyway may have been built in BG, I will have to check the records)
There were no 83's officially, but 50 were produced and one does remain at the MUSEUM!
The C4 was the first completely new Vette since 1968 virtually none of the parts or assembly process was carried over. Due to economic uncertainties of the times, the GENERAL was unwilling to commit big bucks to forward testing and when the components from the suppliers came together at the Plant, they didn't fit very well!
Wisely, rather than go forward and turn out a piece of crap, the decision was made to hold off production until the fit and finish problems could be solved

Awesome, been wanting this picture. I went to the museum last year, but this picture didn't develop on my set. Can't believe how many pictures I took there. :D I have almost every angle of that Concept Corvette with the LT5 in it. Man I want one of those.

Re: WHERE THE 1983 ????? (kman0066)
Ok guys, bear with me. I own an 83 corvette. I have owned it for a few years now and I am sure a few people own a couple as well. It is a metalic blue car!! I have verified all the numbers and sure enough, it is an 83 corvette. I know you heard all of the stories that they only made around 50 and that one survives but I do have one.
How did I verify the numbers?? Well I looked underneith the car and right below the HotWheels logo, it says 83' Custom Corvette!!! Yep, that's right. It is an 83 California Custom Corvette!!! So yes, I do own a 83 corvette.
 :lolg:
For what it's worth I tore the interior out of my 84 this winter and all of the hand written markings on the body panels date the produciton of my vette in June of 83. I guess I'll tell people I got one of the 50 now! :lolg:

Actually a lot of parts on the C4 have 1983 on them...like tail light lenses. That date is the patent and mold date. Some people actually use that number on ebay thinking they have an '83 part or even car....

Just because we know that doesn't mean we have to tell everybody!
Heck with my flashing lights problem I'll start telling people it's an '83 Police Interceptor!
I actually had a ride in one of those first 83's in fall of 1982.
Had a GM friend at the plant in GR who came by my shop with one of those 50 test cars and we took a little beat and test time. I think that car actually rode harder than the first 84 I rode in. At that time he said that car was scheduled to be scrapped.
