Default Oil Pressure

If I turn my key on without starting the car my oil pressure reads 5-7 pounds of pressure. Is this normal?

Normal, no. Common, yes. If it bothers you (it would me) change the guage sending unit. About $20 and 1.5 hrs labor

Default Re: Oil Pressure (VettBrat)

When you start the engine, it should read over 50psi, until it warms up and then it can drop into the 30's and finally the 20s when really hot. (Idling)

5-7psi can be either the sending unit (stuck into the back of the intake manifold) or maybe the oil pump.

Replace the sender immediately, then if it comes back you might need to replace the pump. (the pump is cheap, labor might not be)
