heavy load on electical system?
Took the Vette for a spin the other day and had to use the rear defroster along with the heater.
I noticed the turn signal rate of click diminish at idle. When I turned off the defroster, it was better.
I know that there's significant load on the charging system but would you think just over a 12V read is "normal"?

14.4 is normal, though mine will sometimes dip into the 13's and then come back up again. Besides the stock equipment, mine is also powering a 4x100 watt amp for my stereo and it maintains its 14.4 output. You may want to keep an eye on it. They are reasonably cheap and easy to replace. I went the pep boys route for like $140 or so with a lifetime warranty. The warranty came in handy as I had to replace it several times due to an unrelated issue (rusted emissions tube releasing hot exhaust directly under the alt.) Once I got the emissions problem fixed, the alternator powered the stereo and everything else without a hitch, staying around 14.4.
