Re: Paint Code - 92 Black Rose Metallic (89Corvette6spdFX3)
What was special about the Black Rose Metallic?
Nothing particular - we're just trying to match the factory paint as closely as possible. The RPO code indicates the name of the color.
My understanding is that the "paint code" is a more precise description of the actual color, lot, etc. I think body shops use this to determine how to mix for a good match. If this is not correct, somebody please tell me - maybe all we need is the RPO.
While you guys are talking about paint codes, could someone please tell me where this sticker that contains the codes is located on a 1995 C4? I looked
on the driver side door but didn't see any code. Then again, my eyesight isn't what it once was. If anyone knows the code for the White exterior, please let me know. I wanted to buy some touch-up paint and there are so many whites that doing so without the code is impossible. Thanks, :flag
I'm trying to help out a friend. He has a "Black Rose Metallic" (pronounced "purple" if you're male) '92 Coupe that needs some paint work, but the bottom of the Service Parts Info tag in his car is damaged, and he can't read the paint code.
The option code for that paint is supposedly 73U. If anyone has a Black Rose Metallic car - can you please check what the paint code line at the bottom of the tag reads. It starts out "BASE COAT/CLEAR COAT ", but the important part is no longer visible.
Anyone have a car from about that vintage (VIN would be fairly close), and could post their paint code? Thanks to anyone that can help!
Be careful with using the name "Purple" at the paint shop to identify the color as there was a later C4 color called Dark Purple Metallic and the code is 05U.
Re: Paint Code - 92 Black Rose Metallic (c4cruiser)
Thanks, Cruiser. Just being funny about calling it "purple"... :jester
We're looking for the paint code (rubbed off at the bottom of the sticker in the photo), not the option code (which you can see as the last item on the RPO sticker). That's what a paint shop will need to get a fairly good match, as we're not planning to paint the entire car, only the parts that are the WRONG color, due to coming from a DIFFERENT c4.
Re: Paint Code - 92 Black Rose Metallic (89Corvette6spdFX3)
hmm, digging througgh my paperwork, other than the option code i have 1 sheet that calls the color "7373 black rose metallic".
i also have a dupont color chart for 1992 corvette colors that was given by the dealer to the original owner and it lists the balck rose met color as "wa-9885" "df789".
dunno if that helps but if you dont have your answer by tommoroow i will go out and check on the car.

It's on the inside door of the little compartment in the hatch behind the passenger seat.
You know, that compartment where the battery is SUPPOSED to be? I felt a definite improvement in balance on the track once I started using that compartment for it's intended purpose...

:bs i suspect gm is aware of the fact its illegal to put the battery in the passenger compartment.
run adjustable coil overs and compensate for the weight would be a legal alternative to weight imbalance if it was in fact an issue.
shoot.we are way off topic here from the original question.will be back in 20 with the paint info from my car.(gotta get dressed).
