Greetings fellow Vette-Sters :seeya ,
Just wondering if any of you have ever run the Silver State Challenge Open Road Race in Nevada? My Wife (Rhonda) and I are veteran racers at this event and have been racing out there since 1993 in our old 1970 AMC Javelin (AMC powered) land speed racer known as "Great White". Teched for unlimited speed, we have averaged a best of nearly 170 MPH for 90 miles, and a top speed of well over 180 MPH. Official AMC recorded top speed is 216 MPH. Over the years at the Silver State, we have won the 165 Super Sport class, the 155 class, and the 135 class. MANY of our friends race their Corvettes out there and now that I have this 1996 C-4 Coupe, I was curious to know if any of our old Corvette Silver State friends are on this forum. Anybody there?
I had my application for the 1992 or the 1993 run filled out and ready to send in, but things came up ... then I got busy in the years since. But one of these days, I'm going. I want to do it at least once before I'm too old.
Some local guy has a Twin Turbo LT1 (about 800hp) yellow Ultima GTR that supposedly runs in that competition, have ya seen him out there?
I've witnessed him run at the local drag strip, not even getting on the throttle until past the tree he still turned an 9 second pass at over 150mph.
A good friend of mine has run his firebird out there. I think he toasted his motor. High volume oil pump + standard volume pan + extended high RPM's = :U

Re: The Silver State Challenge (Defender)
Somebody else posted about this a while back. It was the first that I had ever heard of it. It is definitely on my dream list of things I'd like to do!
