Default resonator performance

hi guys. i need help from those of you who have done this. i'm going to keep my stock mufflers on the car but am thinking about removing the resonator from it. i have already got rid of the cats and want to know if cutting the resonator off will drastically change the sound of the car. i dont want it too loud. so for those of you who did it. did it get alot louder when u cut your off? thanks

does that mean it'll get louder or not? i'm actually wanting to maintain a very pleasant tone in the car. i dont want it loud at all. i have cutouts on the car and can open them when i want it loud. but when they're closed i want it quiet. so does it just help performance and still keep quiet? or does it get obnoxious?

It did not get louder when I removed mine. I did it when I installed my long tube headers, so the entire exhaust sound changed. I also used a pair of the Random Tech cats. Actually, I lost all resonance and the sound now is excellent. It's not annoying loud or obnoxious, but does turn heads.

I think exhaust sound are very subjective...........just read all the posts on all the cat-back systems or mufflers and all the different opinions.

I would get rid :smash: of it and add straight pipe with x or h pipe. I have Magnaflows, no resonator, true duels with H-pipe. I really like mine. I still have cats and stock manifolds.

I noticed you are in Anderson, S.C., I lived there from '73-'76, 5-7th grades. Pleasant memories, lots of good folks there. Went & rented the movie 'Radio' , true story based around the same time period but the high school portrayed in the movie did'nt seem to be the one I recall. Anyway, Anderson & the people I knew there were really good people. Also spent time in Charleston much later in life, different world. :seeya

I have removed my resonator, but not the cats. The exhaust is a little deeper. I am thinging about straight piping the exhust to make it even louder.

Just a touch louder, but not a lot. I still have the cats though.

Just removed the resonator and replaced with an X-pipe! Man, I think it helped with power. I mean I could actually feel a difference like when I swapped out the mufflers for Magnaflows. Bonus is my car is louder! In a good way. There is no resonance. At least the drone is gone. Not that the drone was ever that loud... it was just a depressing sound and I hated it. Now, it sounds great.
