I'm entering a local car show this weekend with a decent number of cars, and wanted to get input on what category I should enter under. The best choices seem to be: Best Chevy open, Best of Show, Best Engine, 73 to present. I need input today only, I'm putting in the application today. I drive a 96 Grand Sport LPE car now a 396 that's supercharged and intercooled with red guts. The paint has a few scratches on the back quarter panel, and the engine bay isn't super clean yet, but I'm very willing to work on it and get it as clean as possible, but my concern if I entered best engine is that my engine bay isn't clean enough for that category. Any input on what category I should select would be very appreciated!! Pics of the car/engine can be seen if you follow the link at the bottom of my signature. Thanks!
Re: Car Show Category selection... help!! (Mikez40)
If they have a Category for "90's sports cars", that is the one I would enter.
"Best Chevy" and best Engine will go to an older Hot rod more than likely.
Good luck and have fun.
:iagree: Dont go into it looking to win anything and you wont be let down. When I first started doing shows, I would get really upset at the judging. Now I really pick and choose the shows I enter. Usually club hosted shows are really biased toward club members. I usually just enter shows now for the fun of it and to meet people who share the same interest.

I try to keep it looking like its never been driven :) granted... it only has 30K on it anyways, so it isn't bad in the first place. I'm getting it ready to try to get magazine exposure, so its not very far from show quality in the first place. I'm just kinda looking forward to getting the car seen some.

Nice blower! I have a similar setup to my '94 LT1 (see signiture for info and pics).
I've entered several shows over the past 3yrs. My car is very clean, but never wins judged events. There are just too many "show cars" to compete against, no matter what category you enter. Plus, people bring brand new cars to these shows and many times they are put in our class, and they usually win, which doesn't seem fair.
I have won my class in only 2 events, total. In one show, I was the only one in my class. In the other event, it was an All Corvette Show, and the cars were voted on by the participants. I won Participants Choice Award for Favorite C4. That trophy actually meant more to me than a judged event, because other corvette owners liked my car the best out of about 12-14 C4's, and it wasn't judged by some guy looking for a piece of dirt or scratch in the paint. I recommend entering this kind of event, if you can find any. They are usually put on by corvette or chevy clubs.
If you enter a judged event, just plan on going out and having fun. You'll get to hang out and talk with a bunch of car guys. And, you'll enjoy the attention your car receives by those that come out to see the show. That is reward enough. And, if you happen to win something, that will be an added bonus! Just don't be disappointed if you don't.
