I'm 2 to 3 hrs away from the nearest Corvette Club. I see a lot of Corvettes in my town and I'm contacting owners to start a club locally. I've participated in many clubs, but I've never been an officer in a club, so I don't know the logistics. I'm just never in one spot long enough to participate in running a club.
How do I start this club? Should I affliate with an established national or regional club? Is there a "Starting a Corvette Club for Dummies" book out there???
Re: Please help me create a Corvette club (Trigger Creep)
I have been president of a Miata Car Club but not the initiator, but I have some suggestions
1- post some signs advertising an ice cream get together at some local place where corvette owners might see the signs
2 - have a simple plan ready to go like 20 bucks a year for a monthly newsletter for listing events and soem tech ideas
3- make up a flyer to hand to vette owners over the next 2-3 weeks
4- once you get a crew of 4-5 people who are willing to help out, you can havce a regular meeting to assign tasks
then write back to me in three years telling me how disgusted you are because you are doing so much work that you cant find time to drive your car
just kidding ? you will make some great friends in the process, we travel consistently with a few couples we have met thru the car club

Re: Please help me create a Corvette club (Trigger Creep)
Good question, Trigger. (I'm a shooter as well)
I'd just see how the local guys respond to the idea.
Start with some Saturday night get-togethers at the drive-in burger joint and see if a core group actually pulls itself together.
First, ya' gotta' have people.
Then worry about the "official" junk when the need for it arrives. If it's meant to be, it will grow with a life of its own.
Good luck!!
Re: Please help me create a Corvette club (Trigger Creep)
We started one up here, in Northeast Ohio. But we did it because, or in spite of, the other clubs in the area. We wanted something that was a no :bs club. No dues, no expectations, no points systems. We have a set date and a set place. If you show, you show. If you don't, we'll catch you next week.
It works well.
I once received a call, at 9:00 at night, from the president of a local club. He wanted to know if I'd be interested in signing up my little girls, so the club would have more points.
What we started, is the antithesis of this. You may want to follow suit.
Re: Please help me create a Corvette club (joeveto)
you are in the right place.
I started a club here in Indiana by going to the member locator and emailing people in my area and asking if they were interested. I also put fliers, with my phone# and Email Address, on corvettes when I seen them parked in parking lots. It worked. I just arranged a first event....a trip to Metamora, and Lingenfelter Shops. It takes a little legwork...but I enjoyed it. Met some really cool people. We had about 9-10 corvettes in the club...not bad for a small town. I think the important thing is that you keep constant communication, and plan events and meetings at the time and place that is convenient to the majority. I refused to require fees, or dues because it was just fun to get together and cruise, or eat dinner together. You can raise money for charity by holding car washes, car shows, and such. Its really only limited to your imagination. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the replies and the help folks. I think I'll take some good advice and keep it simple for now. There's always time to complicate the hail out of this later. :jester
I spent the weekend terrorizing the local population with Biz sized cards about the club. Our 1st meeting is tomorrow night.

Re: Please help me create a Corvette club (CentralCoaster)
I didn't like the structured car clubs either. As the gang leader, I think its important to make it relaxed, fun, and include everyone in the decision making process. I decided to start the club because I saw politics involved in my old Corvette Club. At their annual car show, the club president won the "best car" award with a 2000 stock Vette...over folks with classic Vettes! You could hear the whispers...and most agreed that it was BS. Who voted? The VP, Treasurer, the business owner, and the President himself. They also charged $40.00 per year! I think it should be all about having fun, and who needs another popularity contest? I was over that in High School. I just wanted to get together and turn some wrenches, talk some smack, and kick a few back. Good luck. Have fun!
