Coming home from class the other night when I heard this "thunk", kinda like I kicked up a rock. Couple of seconds later, it sounds like I am dragging something, not quite loud enough to be a muffler drag though. Couple of miles later, I had to slow down so I used the brakes...Problem area found! Turns out that somehow the brake caliper pin had come out and my left front caliper departed from its mount and was scraping around inside my rim. The car spent the night at a 7-11 with me returning the next day to make repairs. :smash: After about 7 miles of rubbing, the only damage was the cooling fins on the caliper were ground down a little. Only superficial damage to the inside of the rim. It didn't even hurt the brake line. Lucky me! :blueangel:
So, if you hear an unexplained "thump", you might want to stop and check it out...you never know...
My "thunk" that I had happen a couple months ago was the exhaust. Slipped out after the cats and all of a sudden I was driving a NASCAR sounding Vette.

Re: Scary "Thunk" (TimMTP)
Lol, i had the exact same thing happen on my ford. Heard a sound like I ran over a bolt.. I was suspicious already. I applied the brakes and heard the caliper slip on the rotor, and immediately realized I lost a pin. I was lucky and was able to double back and find it still laying in the middle of the road.
This is a public service announcement to check your calipers guys, and make sure the bolts aren't backing out! :yesnod:
