Default Question about VIN plates

So I'm getting my windshield replaced soon and noticed my VIN plate has a light coat of rust on it. While the windshield is out I want to clean it.

What should I do? Should I sand and paint it and if so what color?

Need Help please.

Thanks..

I'm sure I can get the rust off without a problem, but need to know what I should do to prevent it from comming back.

Silver paint??

Not sure what to do...

Do yourself a HUGE favor and put something on it.Nothing looks nastier than checking out a nice car and them glancing at the RUSTED vin plate.Ill be replacing the windshield in my car soon and this will a priority for me.Im going to scuff the vin plate and shoot some satin black or satin clear over it.

The VIN plate on my other 84 is silver(not rusted)

Should i paint it silver or would that look goofy?

If not what color?

Just about anything looks better than rust. What I did with mine was remove the dash pad, trim the seal away to get to the vin plate and used a Qtip with some white grease and spread it on the plate. It got rid of the light rust film but after all this work a rock flies up and breaks the windshield.Go figure. So no I get to at least do it right.Ive seen a few cars in the past and the plate was rusted really bad.You can shoot some satin clear on it and it wont stand out.
