Default Dana 36

Was reading earlier about Dana 36 vs. 44. I have a 96 LT1 auto, so I
assume I have a 36. Is there anything I should watch for? I do not
drive the car hard, but am the 3rd owner and do not know its past.

Thanks for all the info you all provide, I learn more each session. :flag

If you have an auto then you have a D36. If you drive the car primarily on the street you will be fine. Normally people start to have problems with the D36 when they hit the track a lot.....especially with sticky tires (drag radials, et streets, etc).

My buddy has a supercharged 86 Vette. He has the original Dana 36 and original gears. He has had no problem with his rear to date But he also does not visit the track or overly mistreat his vette. Your rear was made for present set up. Unless you do any major modifications to your engine or generally drive your car to its extreme your Dana 36 should last you a life time.

Youre fine for regular driving. If it goes out it'll prolly be at very high mileage, if ever.

Drag racing, thats another issue.
