Up Shift Indicator
I have a 1988 with a 4 speed automatic. The up shift indicator on the dash has recently been coming on while in overdrive. If I let up on the gas pedal or go up a hill, the light will temporarily go off. The engine is reving at about 1700 to 1800 rpm while doing 60 mph, about 100 to 200 rpm faster than usual. This seems to happen more often in the afternoon than in the morning. I'm assuming it's temperature related, because it's warmer then. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what's going on?

If it's 200 rpm faster than normal at that speed, it could be because the torque converter isn't locking up like it should. But, I'm not sure why that would have anything to do with the up-shift arrow coming on... unless the computer doesn't think you're in OD.

Mine comes on periodically when I am on the highway cruising in overdrive. Gas it a little and it goes away for another few weeks. I have no idea what causes it though. (88 35th Anniversary) :confused:

my upshift light in my 86 will come on in OD if i'm running at a steady speed. but it will go off once the lock up torque convertor kicks in, but the chip i'm running doesn't let it engage till 67-68 mph for some reason. but i like it that way :D
