Need some advice on an 87 Red Vert -66,000 miles, 4+3 tranny. Nice paint, interior in good shape. Heres the rub- It has what was described to me as a Larry Shinoda Convertible body kit. Simply put, it has a small wing above the rear tail lites. The tail lites are similar to those of seen on the 91 models and up. Appearance wise, I don't think looks bad but it is unique. It has ZR-1 type wheels in excellent shape. Engine bay is very clean and original looking. I haven't driven the car yet but assuming she runs good, what do you folks think? I have a nice 71 coupe (keeping) but always wanted a convertible.
Alot of guys on here will tell you to stay away from the 4+3 tranny, since it did put Doug Nash out of business, so IMO either get an auto or look for a 6 speed vert. I also am not one for body kits on C4s, but it isn't mine. If you like the car and the price is right (is it??) then go for it, but be ready for some repairs. Maybe with only 66K it won't be that bad.
I guess I am in the minority, but I have an 87 vert 4+3 (88,000 miles) and haven't had any problems at all. I personally don't think you should run away from a 4+3, but just be aware of the the potential pitfalls. My car was very well taken care of and not driven hard, which is probably part of its success. I personally like my car to be all original, so I might be kinda interested in why the back end ws replaced-accident?
