The Crossfire and TPI will lose to an LS1. The LT1 has a little better chance, driver skill plays a very large part. The LT4 will beat an LS1 stock for stock.
LS1's seems to have a wider production variance in the HP. Some of them are really strong, some of them aren't. The CFI/TPI/LT1/LT4 were a lot more consistent. Any way you look at it driver skill is gonna play a huge part. I've seen ZO6's runn 13.8's because of the driver.
I ran against a 01 ss and won! and it was my first night at the track EVER...mines a 95 vert a4 with 3.07's I got 13.2 that night. A ss stock will run like 13.7 on a average run with boltons like many have that go to the track get around 13.2 so watch out if they have been worked on a little!!!
I they can drive it, they will take a stock Lt1. My previous car was an LS1 Camaro. 13.50 bone stock with bald street tires, and that was my first run at a track with a standard! Im positive with some practice I could have dropped 2 10ths.
As for the SS, you will find that it isnt much faster in the 1/4 than a Z28, if at all.

a SS will average better then a 13.7. These things are fast. And the SLP cars can crank 12s. Nothing to sneeze at while driving a C4. Although the LT4 seems to put them in line..... I have heard "I never knew they were that fast" from more then 2 LS1 F-body drivers.

Re: C4 vs LS1 Camaro/Firebird? (mustbampeg)
Back before I was in school I used to hang around with my old F-Body club (previous 97 T/A here), and was pretty impressed that the LS1 cars were putting down 290-310 RWHP stock, and with cat-back systems...
My previous Vette, a 96 LT1 with a few boltons put down 273 RWHP, I'm not sure about the LT4 yet, but I understand they're in the same ballpark as LS1s...
One thing I noticed about the LS1 cars was there was almost no difference between a standard production T/A or Z28 and the more expensive SS, WS6, and Firehawks... The LS1 generation IMO was more cosmetic and suspension tuning than power increases... They all dyno'd right around the same on 2 seperate dyno days I attended...
I went to the track with those same guys several times and my best in the LT1 Vette was 13.6 @ 103... Most of the LS1 crowd was putting 13.2 @ 108 or better... They're close, but a little faster than you most likely with driver skill and conditions being equal... A few of them broke 12s (and rear ends) with drag radials...

They sure can, and many of them all it takes to get into the 12's is an air filter and a cat-back. Then there are other LS1's that only put down like 260-270, and the auto's are even less. I know some guys who just put heads / cam / headers on an LS1 and dyno tuned it back out for a max of 350 horsepower. This exact same combo yielded 400+ on another car. BTW, before you go and say they did the install wrong, they didn't.
I've seen this sort of thing many times on the LS1. Some of them are unusually strong, some of them are complete turds and there doesn't seem to be a lot of middle ground between them. Although the LT1/LT4 cars have their variances they seem to be a lot more consistent.
IMHO I'm just not quite sold on the aluminum block LS1 yet. I won't argue that they have the potential to make great power, they just also seem to have the potential to really suck. If I was buying one I'd hate to have to take it to the dyno before I decided if it was worth buying or not.

Re: C4 vs LS1 Camaro/Firebird? (Darkgh0st)
I used to have a buddy with a 99 Camero auto. It was one hell of a drag race only car. Thats about all it could do. With minor stuff he ran 12's all day long.
I ran a SS 6spd with my 93 auto. I tore him up. Then he started to reel me in on top end. It was already over though. The six speed SS will top out waaay up there. I was bone stock then. Now, 3.73, hotcam etc.
BYE, BYE looking good in the rear view.... :smash:
See the vid in my sign. :smash: The victim was a bolt-on and cam LS1 Z28 SS that recently went 12.3 @ 114mph. My advise is get some mods and spank them :steering:
Your '96 Vette likely runs mid to low 13s, depending on the setup.
As stated, you can take the stock F-body but "hopped up" could be a different story...they could run anywhere from mid 13s to low 12s, depending on mods.
Remember..."don't take a knife to a gun-fight"...stock vs modded. :nono:
my best friend has a 99 ws6 T/A. he has an air lid and a borla cat back to match my LT1 w/ magnaflow (no cats) and SLP Claw intake...so we basically run the same mods. Ive driven the T/A and it feels strong. I think, as many have said, itll come down to the driver. atleast that is how me and the T/A owner feel having driven both.
I know for a fact a f-body with a decent driver can run a lot better than a 13.7. I suck and I ran a 13.7 with a 2.23 60' (terrible) major wheel spin on the 1-2 so bad I had to leave off the gas big time and I hit my rev limiter in 2nd. Most LS1 f-bodies will run low 13's all day long with a half decent driver. Most C4 Vettes will do the same. So it all comes down to the driver.
Racing is all about the driver, I beat a very new LS1 T/A WS-6 and my car is basically stock... L98... so the only way you can tell is by actually runnin 'em
Just to clear up, I'm not saying I'm an awesome driver I'm just saying he sucked :smash:
Well, my previous vehicle was a 2000 WS6 Trans Am 6spd. Bone stock it ran a 13.17@109mph at Indianapolis Raceway park. With Nitrous, Spec stage 3 clutch, and SLP headers I ran 11.9@122mph (horrible 60ft times). The car was capable of probably 11.5's, but I don't think the rear end could have handled stickier tires.
