Its pretty easy to change an import lover just givem a drive in your vette and he will fall in love. I have an 1989 vette and i think if people start changing these kids attitudes about vettes maybe the domestics will again be at the top. There is nothing like torque, i have driven in some "fast" imports and they dont feel like my vette in fact its pretty boring, but when you jump in the vette you feel the torque push you back in the seat where you belong. If you think about it the price of the c4 is absolutely wonderful i bought mine for 8000 with 58000 miles and most people who buy imports pay about the same or even more. Its crazy how a 15 year old car can beat the new cars on the street today and with minor boltons you can make every import lover eat there dust.
The purchase prive of the car is only half the story though, some need a second car for winter like myself, plus then you have to pay for upkeep on both cars, plus insurance on both cars.
I am all for education of the 2F2F masses. I too don't really want to see riced out Corvettes, that would be gross. What is important is to clarify what is reality and fantasy. I know from past experiences, people are always amazed by the raw power. I have had teenagers ask me about the horsepower and not seem to think it is much. Then I say, well what do you think of 5.5 sec or so 0-60 or topping out in the vicinity of 150 miles per hour? That always gets them.
The problem is total lack of reference. Anyone who had been in cars of the sixties with a decent V-8 in them, know, but all kids and most young adults today, unless they have been in Vettes or even any muscle car cannot simply understand.
All the references to those movies with Ricer cars, the local scenes and sport compact shows, etc. are the only real exposure alot of young people get to cars, at least up where I live in Canada. Sure at the cruise nights I go to, I get a chance to tell onlookers about my Vette, but I have seen cases where the young people will just walk by a ZO6 and go over to some Mitsubishi 3000 GT like it is the next supercar. Unbelievable sometimes.
I agree with others that insurance and upkeep may be barriers, but hey, so would a Ferrari and the kids don't think those are POS cars. I am just waiting for to see what insurance companies think of these new pocket rockets such as the STI or Evos that have 270-300 hp on tap. Do they insure those the same as a Civic SI, I've got to wonder. How would a kid afford those anyway? or the Insurance for them if the insurnace companies get wise which they should.

that is the video of my 95 vert VS 04 wrx..if your a member of digitalcorvettes.com take a look. I just had to prove that that pocket rocket had nothing ony my 95 vert . The guy with the 04 later said "i knew you were fast but not THAT fast WOW" haha
this is how it went we had a buddy to film it in another car.we cruised to the first light and let them go I got like 5 cars on him and let off at like 60mph and let him catch back up and find another light to race well at the next light there wasa cop on the other side so didn't get to race but enjoy
:D
I look at Vettes as like a big dog. I have a 95lb lab and he doesn't need to prove anything. My neighbor has a little Jack Russel, who barks and growls constantly trying to prove to my dog and the world that he is tough. Same thing with imports (also don't forget about the Foc-us). They take their little 4 bangers, stick a fart can and a Playstation in the thing and think they have a car? :nono:
I think that is why you don't see many riced out Vettes. You don't need to prove anything or stick neon on your car to separate it from the soccer mom down the street. It stands out just by being itself.
That said, I saw a Vette with a big wing on it today. I wanted to cry :cry
