I purchased the car last December, it came without a PKE transmitter. When I read that PKE was standard on 93 models onwards I purchased a transmitter.
The transmitter programmed OK, and worked fine for several weeks.
However one day I came to the car, walked upto the drivers door as normal, the door opened as it should and I pressed the unlock door' button on the transmitter to open the passenger door to let a passenger in. This normally works fine, nothing. I pressed several times until the passenger door opened.
Since then my PKE no longer seems to be working. I can open the passenger door via the remote button, and open the hatch. The drivers door does not open from the button, and none of the doors operate passively.
Yes you probably cycled it to the off mode for valet service while fiddling with the door button.
Just open the drivers door, press and hold the door button on the transmitter. The locks should cycle, it takes about 5-8 seconds holding the button down. The lock on the door will first unlock then cycle lock-unlock. That turns it off or on depending on where it was at. You use this when you want to disabled it for things like turning it over to a service person, or washing the car or servicing it yourself.
Let us know. You can tell its in this mode if you try to program it but it doesn't seem to take. That's because it is one of up to three transmitters programmed and you just need to cycle its mode as described above.
If you turn the key "on" & the system is active it will indicate Passive Keyless entry on the lower left corner of the DIC. If you want to program which door/s unlock, put the key in the ignition, donot turn "on" & hold down the door button until the doors open as you like. You can program one or both. With system off you can only open the pass/door & the hatch. Your key will open the drivers door.
The on/off is straight forward as I described. Just open the door and press and hold the door button on the transmitter. You'll hear them cycle.
For control over which door does what, you'll need to insert the key into the ignition. If you don't have a manual let us know I'll be happy to document the different programs for you.
That is great, glad to hear it. I did the same thing myself, accidently, so when I saw your post I had a pretty good idea what happened. When I tried to reprogram it, it ignored me and didn't do anything. That's when it dawned on me and I tried the cycling. Duh, it worked and it was my fault. So now I know better. It had me worried for a few minutes I thought oh no major expense. But such was not the case just operator error.
Excerpt from manual:
With Passive Keyless Entry, you can use the system to operate both doors or only the driver's door. You can also choose to disable the system if there are times when you would prefer not to use the Passive Keyless Entry.
To switch door settings:
To switch the setting from automatically locking and unlocking the driver's door to automatically locking and unlocking both doors.
1. Insert the ignition key, but leave the ignition off.
2. With the trasmitter in range, hold the DOOR button for more than two seconds. The system will then cycle the door locks.
3. To switch back, repeat steps 1 and 2.
To turn it off... you know how to do that now.
I've never changed the setting to have just one door open to both, so I can't tell you from experience what the lock cycling does. But that is what the manual says. My guess is the default condition is just the driver's door which for nearly most times that works for me, if there is a passenger I just press the button to let them in. I suppose if I had a regular rider, I would change it so both locked and unlocked.
Thank goodness for the little things. Have a great day.
