The color is faded (worn) on the center console cover on my 88. Is it leather
or vinyl? Has anyone "refreshed" one of these or do you replace the cover?
the interior is still top shelf except for this.
Anyone have any information for me??
I saw one that had been re-covered. Looked like crap. If you replace it remember the build codes are under there. I think Ecklers and others have a strap on cushion that looks ok. good luck. :chevy

Re: Leather or Vinyl? (JIMBO7)
Local upholstrey shop recovered sport seat bolster and console cover for around $70 with matching vinyl (tan 87 vert) and did a great job! My center console had faded to a pinkish salmon color (ugh). It was worth every penny as you don't fixate on that ugly stuff anymore when you open the door and climb in. :seeya
So the drivers bolster can be removed? I have been wondering about that.
You can buy a new center console pad cheap enough on ebay. It would probably be possible to take apart the old one and put the new cover on top if you are worried about the option codes.

I didn't watch the guy do it but he had to get to it some way. It looks "factory".
I used vinyl dye and re-painted my center counsel as well as door seal covers. If I'm not mistaken the replacement counsels only come in black and you have to dye to match your interior. If you go that route make sure you prep it the right way or else it will flake off.
I used the dye and only had it on the car for a few months before I had to park the car but it held up nice in the summer weather. Its a convertable and the top stays down most of the time. I took the center counsel into an automotive paintstore and they matched it as close as possible with stuff they had on the shelf. They could have matched it perfectly, but that would have required them to mix a special match. I'm more than happy with the results. I believe Ecklers and Mid-America sell the exact colors for our cars. The key is prep, you have to make sure there is no oil, or silicon residue on the parts.
