I need some advice on a 1989 C4 coupe. It's an automatic with 30,000 miles on it. It is a very cleean car inside and out. Very well maintained and even the weather striping is in good shape. They are asking 16,900 for it. My question, is this to much for the car. I was thinking more around the 14 range.
Well, I can tell you what the N.A.D.A says it's worth... Mine shows with the $1,490 mileage add; an average retail price of $10, 490
Trade-in is $8,940. This is for the SouthEast Region. I am pulling it up on NADA guide 2000 for dealers May 2004. What this means is: a GUIDE says around what its worth. I personally think 12k kills this deal er than a toady frog. MAX 12K. Why 2k over retail you say?. Well, it probably is a cherry and go try and find one for less. I rest my case. I hope this helps.

Re: The C4 Continues... (bigdreams65)
Here's another strategy. Go to Carlisle in August and find one at the Mecum auction. On the last day of the auction the "don't-want-ers" will let the cars go through pretty cheap. The only problem is that it is difficult to get a chance to do a real inspection on them before you bid. Many "experts" predict very soft prices for C4s abd C5s as we get closer to the C6 intro (which I assume will be in September).
I went to a "How to Bid at Auction" class and learned enough to be dangerous to my wallet! One thing they advised is to go up to one of the guys who is doing the auction and tell him what you want. (There is a specefic nickname for the guy who stands by the car and looks over the crowd for bidders - talk with him). These guys know their product very well. For example you might ask: "I am going to buy a car today and here is what I am looking for. I want a low-mileage C4 that has been well maintained and is not beat on. I am also looking for a good buy. Are there any coming up that might work for me?" This "spotter?" will help you out. They do not get a commission until something sells. If you go to the Carlisle web site they should be able to give you instructions on how to become a bidder. SOLD :smash: Here is the site http://www.carlisleproductions.com
That sounds a little high though I "overpaid" $14k for my 35th Anna in 2000 and it needs quite a bit of $$ to make it cherry.
If paint, interior and weather stripping are mint with low mileage and good rubber it's close to a new car. Though it may be a bit much you will have lots of trouble free Vette driving. I think it would not be a bad deal for $14k or so.
Find out what options are on it; get a copy of the "Corvette Black Book" and check the major options from the list under the center console lid. For example if it has full power seats, Z51 or FX3 packages it would be worth a little more. For that $$ it should have a full set of options.
Bought my 95 in the Fall of 2003, paid $14,500. 106,000 miles - immaculate
interior, didn't have a second thought about the miles on the LT-1, and the color of Dark Purple Metallic Color. Had to have it. I would wait, there are
very good deals on late model C-4's
Everyone is missing the fact that you might prefer the older interior and body style. The 89 is the last year for that dash. $16k seems a little high, but it is worth however much you are willing to pay. If you just want a Vette and don't care what year, you could get a newer one for the same money. Duh. I went with a 90 because it had the newer interior and the circular tail lights. My preference. I seriously doubt I would sell mine for under $16k regardless of what any market is doing. If the 89 is the car of your dreams, and you feel comfortable with the deal, go for it.
"I think 14 would be about right.
I have a 95 vert a4 with just 32k miles on it it's worth 20ish range "
(Link removed because it didn't work, but you can check the site yourself)
This was from Kelly Blue Book, with every option available, and every rating clicked as excellent. It was also for a private party sale (not from dealer). $16, 210 for a 95 vert with those miles.
Cardshark, Kelly blue book is GARBAGE. I ran it through NADA and it says high retail on my 95 vert is $22,000 forgot the other numbers but high was 22k. My neighbor sold his 95 ver with 30k miles 2 weeks ago for 23k..later
