I'm in the process of installing poppers and solenoids now and I was wondering where people had drilled and found enough space behind the outer body shell to install the popper itself.

I'll post what I find if nothing else gets added here.

Well, the drivers door is finished. Works like a charm.

I ended up welding the bracket for the solenoid to the reinforcing plates underneath the latching mechanism at the far rear of the inside of the door. This mounts the solenoid straight up so water has a better chance of getting in the solenoid if it gets in the door than if the solenod was mounted downwards or horizontal but it was the only way I could get it all to work without a lot of brake line and cable and difficult fabbing for the mounting of the solenoid.

The popper mounted in the body a few inches below the moulding going the length of the door on the outside. When depressed, the popper extends into the area that is accessible when the vent is removed.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased.

Well, the Optima is good insurance but even with that, the components are boud to wear out some time anyway. Most places that mfr these popper kits also sell a small kit consisting of a cable, a handle, and some sheathing that runs from insde one of the doors and exits somewhere under the outside of the car to provide a manual release.
