Default Black Paint

So what would you use to remove slight scratches in black paint?
Buffing? The paint is not faded just some scratches? What process would yield the best results?

I have the same problem. But my paint seems to be wearing thin. So I just wash and wax and use rubbing compound only when necessary.

Vader,

My daily driver is black. Tough color to keep clean. But if you use a clay bar, such as Zaino or Mother's, and then wax it will look great and take off most of the swirl marks. The secret is to clay bar and wax in a back and forth motion. If you go in circles it actually creates mor marks. So for example on the hood go back and front from back to front... on the side go back and forth from front to back of car. You will be amazed at the results. I clear off alot of blemishes that way. Zaino is the best clay bar system IMO and I like to use 3M cleaner wax or Zymol afterwards. By the way... when washing the car I also wash / dry the paint in back and forth motion to prevent forming swirl marks. If it helps, I used to detail cars, and my customers were very pleased with results.

Black paint, is very difficult to mantain clean and screatch free. It`s the washing that screatches your car and the wiping to drying it. Clean microfiber rag for washing and natural shammy(wet) to dray it. Never wipe the paint with a dry rag and NO PRESSING ON RAG WHEN WHASHING OR DRYING. Even if you`re very careful you will still scratch the paint....it`s the black paint thats such a PITA. My next vette will be red only for this reason...TO HARD TO KEEP IT LOOKING DECENT :yesnod:

Don't ever use a cotton towel to dry your car.

I've used a waterblade, which works great, (but DOES scuff the wax coat), and now I'm trying out the Mr. Clean auto-dry. A shammy is also a must.

Cotton towels pickup small debris and rub it into your paint. I don't have a clearcoat, so this is always a struggle. Especially since every shoot time i park outside anywhere, all the surrounding cats have giant orgies on the roof and play icecapades on my hood. :boxing Last time I parked at my brothers house overnight, cats pisssed on 3 of the 4 wheels.
